My Athena base gasket pushed out like that as well .....

..... but luckily, it never leaked, so I just trimmed it off and carried on, lol .....

The gaskets on my cam covers never gave me any problems but I did replace them when I installed those Allen rocker shaft end caps. I also replaced the Athena black rubber o-ring. It had turned "square", lol. The originals were red rubber, silicone I think. I put some old ones back in there. They were still "round" so I figure they were still good.

Over the years in many past threads the use of the undesirable green Athena gaskets has been discussed.
For that very reason I as well disassembled a new to me rebuild top end to replace the Athena gasket set as well as to inspect the po’s work too.
It was educational as some of you witnessed 😅

I also never got the memo. So far the base is holding up well and after numerous beatings down the street the head gasket "bubbles" but doesn't leak. I'm glad I'm now in the learning phase involved with actually riding the darn thing though. It's a heck of a step closer to a finished product. Til gasket change time comes around that is.
