Guess what this is. Spent an hour or so this afternoon spinning this up. I nearly stuffed it up: After drilling the 3mm hole I backed off the tailstock, but the chuck came free and the piece was ripped out of the chuck. Luckily, no damage other than a bit of a knock on the knurling. I didn't have a die of the right size, so I cut the thread on the lathe, but disconnected the change gears a little early so the thread was a little oversize. Finished it off with a file and polishing mop.
It's made of 6061 and has a M16 x 1.00 thread, a 5mm spigot with a 3mm through hole and is knurled to save spanner time. Being aluminium, I had to polish it of course to match the polished bit it screws into.
Winner gets absolutely nothing!
I just love making silly things. Any time on the lathe is good time. I always manage to teach myself a few new words.
