I have a part bike that is a xs400, and my question is can i use the coils off of that xs400 and use it on my xs650?

Well, my question is ..... what year is your 650? Is the 400 and/or your 650 single or dual coils? Many Yamaha models used the same coils so it may be possible but you need to give more info.

Compare the coils. If they're those same gray coils with the orange and brown wires, they'll probably work. Yamaha used that coil on lots of models.

Points will be 6 ohms and electronic is 3 ohms. The only difference is the voltage and as long as both coils match for each cylinder, you are fine.

The stock points coils are 3.9 ohms. Most aftermarket points coils run from about 4 to 5 ohms. The TCI coil is 2.5 ohms.
After market ignitions use several coils. Early Boyers use a high ohm coil like 4.5 ohms. The later use a .6 ohm coil.
The Pamco uses a 2.5 to 4.5 ohm coil.
CDI coils can be very low ohms, like .1 or .2 ohms
So does the 400 use points? if so then they will work on your XS650.
