Is it true that the second block of numbers in Yamaha's part numbering system is all that is required to cross reference parts?

I am aware that the first block of numbers are the vehicle identification.

Meaning that part numbers:

5RM-W0041-00
and
1Y1-W0041-00-00
and
1A0-W0041-00-00

are the same parts/kits, they just fit different machines?

If this is true, are there exceptions?

W0041 is the listing for master cylinder repair kits. If you can find a listing that says these are interchangeable then yes its ok. But they come from different machines.
5RM is XTZ125-250, TTR250, YS250 etc
1A0 is RD250 73-77?, RD350 73-77?, RD40076-7, TX500 73-5, XS650, TZ125 80, etc
1Y1 is FS1DX 79, RC100 77 and 06, KT100s 06, etc

1st 3 letters or numbers are model, next 5 are part number so a XYZ-12345 and ABC-12345 might both be gas tanks but a one might be for a moped and the other a big road bike
