help;; I am trying to save a 79 "roadster" need help w/ testing rectifier. looks like the wires got pretty hot at one time (have discolored and melted by connecter) checked out replacment online, think i better test this one first (trying to be cheap) I assume that its just like 3 diodes etc... any help?

I'm not familiar with your year but biker.net has service manuals you can download free which will have the internals of the rect. so that you can test. If you need a replacement, Pamco Pete thought one up which uses only a couple cheap parts from Radio Shack. You can search the site for it and find it pretty easily.

Build Pamco Pete's Radio Shack rectifier for less than ten dollars. It is easy to do, all you need is a soldering gun, a heat sink, and a half an hour. I've had mine on for approx. a year and it works perfectly and it isn't over thirty years old.
