kick back hurts

hello im new here, aswell to the xs series, which ive come to love fast. anyways, i have a 78 xs650. my problem is she likes to kickback alot. no starter. usually always once before it fires. after it runs if i kill it and goto refire itll kickback, everytime. im on a ps3, sorry for lack of details. any ideas or help would b great

You need to check out the tech section. It is full of a lot of helpful advice for people that are new to the XS650.

I would recommend doing the following:
(in this order)
Adjust cam chain tensioner
Adjust the valve lash
Gap/ clean/ adjust points
Check and adjust the timing (big issue with kick back)
Sync the carbs
Check your plugs
Check for air leaks

thanks aton guys, its hard for me to search on my ps3. im at work on the cpu now tho, gonna do abit of research. lookin forward to bein part of these forums, ill go over the guidelines n such alil better
