Hey! I need a vocabulary update!! I'm so old I remember when the Dead Sea was only sick!
I no longer know what the current definition of what constitutes a custom, chopper, bobber, cafe, tracker, brat, rat ,....bike!
If I am building a flat black, XS, lowered, shortened, lightened, cleaned up, drop seat suspension, bike what am I building?

Don't feel bad not many people know the definitions of those words. They just cut them up and call them whatever they want.
When I was young, A bobber was a bike where you just removed things to that weren't absolutely nessasary to make the bike go and stop.
When you started cutting and modding the frame it was a chopper.
A Cafe was a bobber of sorts with bodywork to make it faster.
A Tracker was fashioned after the dirt track racers.
Now all these bikes can be called customs, they didn't come from the factory that way. They were Customized to the riders ideas.
If these people would use the proper names for the bikes they build it would make it easier for all of us to understand just what they are talking about.

Agreed! :bike:

Bill I just and read your link. It's just about the same as what I have been saying here and now and for years.
If these new kids would study history a bit they would sound so much smarter than the way they mumble about things now.
I say mumble because with your head up your a$$ you can't talk straight.
Rant over.

Yeah, but it's their world now and we can't do much about it.

You're building a chopper.

back in the day you had hardtails and softtails(talking about bikes not babes) then HD came out with the "softtail" I had to learn to say swingarm . Then we have a brat, to me is a mild chop... bobber is one you "bob" off everything that does nothing to make it go or stop. Chopper is chopping the frame. Changing the rake.
First time a guy called my sporty was "sick" it pissed me off, then I was told that's a good thing. But then he didn't know much as it has a nice paint, chrome and stuff but nothing but add ons.... For me sick would be a showroom stocker or made to fit one's idea.... Chrome won't get you home but it makes it eazer to find alone the road at nite.....

All in all everyone has a different opinion what makes a bike a chopper. I find more people calling their bikes that to ME look like a chopper, bobbers. Its all very confusing and I just like to call my bike, a bike; even though its chopped up.
