Had the bike out for a little ride just now, nothing over 6000 rpm, and pull up to a stop sign and hear a loud whirring noise with a hint of a rattle over the idle, bike is still running.

Ease her back to the house and standing there listening around for a half minute and she cuts off. Motor not stuck.

I've had an oil leak from the top of the head but nothing major. Also found just a few flecks of cam chain tensioner black plastic in the oil the first time I changed it.

Any ideas? Kinda bummed this would happen right at the start of good riding weather but at least it won't be too cold to work on her.

Well, the first thing I'd look at is the cam chain adjustment. Start the bike, let it idle, and watch the movement on the plunger. It should bounce in and out slightly about 1 or 2mm. If it doesn't move at all, you've got it set too tight. Play with the adjuster a bit while it's running to see if you can eliminate the clicking and whirring noises. Just make sure the rod has some movement when you're done.

I know it's pretty impossible to diagnose this without hearing it. The cam chain was set correctly not to long ago. I'll try to crank it and get a video later. thanks for the reply.
It's loud and sounds pretty major.
