Der XS650 Motor
Hans-Joachim Pahl

...also in German is the Bucheli Series 551/552 which is only ok...

also i have Clymer which im not too impressed with, Clinton which is little better, Haynes which is better again, and the original Yamaha Service Manuals

XS1 - no visible part #-white
XS1B - no #-green
XS2 - suppl info-dedicated to disc brake and e start-no #
XS1-XS2 - combined-yellow-(11612-56-99)
XS1-TX-A - combined manual-yellow-(11613-06-01)
XS-B - yellow-(447-28199-11) and the subsequent C and D supplementary manuals
XS-E - (2F0-28197-70) or (11616-00-76) and the various model specific supplementary manuals that were produced for each subsequent model using the E model book as a basis
XS650 Models 78-80 - (11616-XS-61) www.biker.net

...these yamaha books have a lot of good pictures (many of which have been badly reproduced in the haynes edition) and easy to read text, haynes also has a bad print typeface which bends my eyes...the earlier yamaha manuals have beautiful photographic quality reproduction-the later are less sucessfully reproduced

...i have sourced all from ebay over the years for very good prices-there are some shops asking ridiculous prices for these-if youre looking for one wait and watch, they come up regularly privately for much better value...

- i asked him about doing it but he said he wasnt that interested...ive been working on it but i know the bloke and dont want to create a copyright problem for myself

Does anyone have a translation of this?

http://www.hjpahl.com/Buchauszug.pdf

I tried to use google translate but it only translated up to half of page twenty and broke the pics, etc.

I can't get it to translate at all; just an error message, plus the pdf is locked so that you can't select and copy text and translate it that way, This is a great book. I want it in English - one way or another.

Great links guys, but the scanned PDF pictures don't help me. With that said which XS 650 manual should one go out and buy? Hayes? Chilton (if they make one)? Yamaha Service manual? Looking for the good one here - not the cheesy manuals that don't show enough detail.

Thanks!!

I think the factory manual is best. Shop eBay for a nice used one. Look for the '78E version with supplements up to at least '80G. '80 was a big change year for the 650 (carbs and ignition) so you want a manual that covers those.

I have unlocked the German manual pdf (
)

Translating it is a bit of a nightmare though, just going through the table of context:
can't find a translation for "Unterbrechergrundplatte" or "Fliehkraftreglers" ..pretty much all of section 5. I got frustrated there, and decided that it was probably more trouble than it was worth. PM me if you are interested in the unlocked version of the pdf, so that you can highlight, copy, and add notes.

Hi, I only want a new user handbook. Which one do you recommend , please ?

Are you for real................click on a link then read it, if it is not the one you want try another link. Keep doing this until you find what you want. If you can't find what you are looking for in any of the links then the information is probably not available.

peanut, the work has been done.
5twins posted a version run through a translator.
It is on here........somewhere.

thats fantastic news thanks for letting me know . I'll have a search.

I'll probably spend most of Christmas day with my ' nose in a netbook ':D

Hi, may I enquire if you are still active in the club and how come you also possess German, as a second language, particularly since my wife is also German. Many thanks for all the helpful information, I think I've found what I need on ebay.
Frohe Weihnachten.
Season's greetings
