What do you guys think of this purchase? I picked it up this weekend for $1500.00. I will start work on it after I finish current project. Never owned a side car unit but always wanted one. I''ll restore to as close to original as possible. One owner 5000 miles.
Thanks

I plan to restore as best I can. The side car geometry scares me a little but I have received excellent help here with my 79 semi cafe and my sons 75 cafe. I need to finish my current 79. I'm close, sending carbs to oldskool soon. Its hard to have one on the lift at 90% and this one calling me.

There's 4 or 5 mabey I got a post of the New England ppl on here I now there's a guy in Wallingford a fue in ri and a fue in ma

I Love it! What are the sprocket sizes? I'm gonna be watching this thread! Sidecars rigs rule!

Sweet , I have a couple thosand miles on my XS with what looks to be the same Velorex car. I have had a bunch of fun with it but I am thinking about removing the car from the XS and finding a different bike for sidecar duty and keeping the XS for my dual-sport ride. I find the XS is a little underpowered for highway cruising but just fine for speeds under 60.

Yep, your geometry does look off a bit. The bike should lean out a little bit and the car should be toed in about 3/4" in. If not the car will want to pull you all over the road and the bars will shake at lower speeds. It can be frustrating to get it set up but its worth the time to get it perfect ,Otherwise you you be spending all your energy fighting the car rather than enjoying the ride. The Velorex manual has some good info on setup here : http://www.velorexusa.com/Instruction_pdf/install_instructions.pdf

Thanks for the replies I haven't looked into much for this bike yet. I would like to find out what model number the sidecar is. It has a brake and lights that are not connected.

Well it out to the garage to work on my other 79 and watch football.

I would guess its a Velorex 562. It looks to be close to the same year as mine ,1980 but they have made this car for a lot of years. Mine was a duplicate of yours when I bought it complete with the tall shield and Jawa mudflap.

As far as I know you can still buy this car and parts from Velorex. I cracked a mount last year and was able to obtain a replacement in a couple weeks.

Its good news parts are available. How does the brake setup work? The po bought the bike brand new in 80 and the sidecar in 82. It also came with front and rear covers.

I have never had the brake hooked up. Its cable operated to a pretty small drum so I am guessing its not going to do much. The brakes on the bike should be enough to stop the outfit if your not carrying too much weight. Its all about practice, I didnt feel comfortable carrying a passenger till I had 500 miles of seat time alone with around 60 pounds of weight in the car to keep the car from flying.

I never rode one it looked cool I bought it. I understand there not easy to ride but its on the bucket list. I'll be looking for help when I get started.
