What do you do for a living ???

I am an Industrial Hygienist for a large chemical company in upper east TN. I evaluate employee exposures to chemicals (fumes, gases, vapors, particulates, etc.), and physical agents like noise, ionizing radiation and non-ionizing radiation (e.g., EMF, UV, IR, microwaves), heat stress, etc. Primarily OSHA compliance related work.

I also write procedures, technical reports, develop training programs, etc. Just joined a team dealing with confined space ventilation issues, air movers & set-up strategies. I support our 1,000+ employee maintenance division, so I work with alot of metal fabricators, pipe fitters, brick masons, mechanics, etc. Quite often I monitor for things like arsenic, hexavalent chromium (stainless steel welding), lead, silica, you name it. Next year, I should be traveling to Germany to support 2-3 small sites with I.H. issues.

I don't have to work.
but I do sometimes when I need extra money. that's at a fab shop.
I used to have a silkscreen business years back. sold that it was a good business. but will consume your whole life if you let it. before the stock market crash a few years back I made a nice return on investments. Now the banks are making most of the money on the same investments "bastards" oops banker are our friends NOT!

i wish i lived in the woods and could hang out with the critters allday thats the life as it is i only get to the woods 1 week out of the year although i do live on the lake and get plenty of critters on my land lots of snakes though

I like this thread, you guys do some neat stuff. The comment about being on this forum while we should be working, so true. Also, jealous of Carbon, you played it smart.

I am an engine builder for Southwest Research Institute or as "twomany" refers to it: his old fishing grounds. I work in the fuels and lubricants division. I basically build them to the engineer's spec for the related test. I also occasionally do installs/removals from the dyno, some stand maintenance whether it be mechanical or electrical with regard to data logging equiptment, engine management software, or just trouble with pressure transducers or thermocouples.

However, my true passion has been race engines, worked in that field for many years but never made good money or had benefits so decided to get a better job. Also, had my own racing carb business (Holleys), but lost it in a divorce.

34 years of the cable guy.
Clean up yer effin houses of cat shyte, dog shyte, cock roaches and such......a bottle of Murphys oil don't cost much! Put a leash on them kids while I'm trying to work, lock up yer dam dog that's trying to bite me and how can you afford a 2 hundred dollar cable bill per month and be disabled?

Aside from that....25 acres in the hills, so the stress of the daily grind diminishes as the evening wears on.........

Currently I keep the wife happy by being the househusband. Some cleaning, cooking and shopping. I keep the man-points up by going to bike and car shows and riding my '92 Yammer XJ600 and working on the '80 XS650. For some extra cash I do yardwork for seniors and metal recycling.

Always interesting to see what people do (or are supposed to be doing instead of browsing this forum) for work.

I work for a fire truck & ambulance dealer doing all of the graphics/striping/lettering etc. When I am not doing that I am helping install stuff on the trucks (lights, axes/halligans/pike poles, hose reels, etc.). Love it!

.

What a coincidence, I happened to have the only job better than yours. I'm a Firefighter. FDNY Engine Company 320, Hook & Ladder 167....The Patriots.

Personal training. Mostly sitting at a desk trying to talk people into overpriced gym memberships... Tho it's worth it to be healthy. Second job is building and repairing bicycles at dickssportinggoods. Full time physical therapy assistant student.. Be done with that Ina bout a year. And hopefully if the Lords willing Ill open up a custom bike/car shop with my Cuzzn within the next 10years. Gotta lot to learn

Retired X2.

Retired from the Navy after 22 years as a Cryptologic Technician (Maintenance) in 1990.

Did a lot of different stuff, mostly maintenance-related for the next 22 years. Highlights include 7 years of IT Support for the local school system, 3 years as a mechanic for an equipment rental place, 4 years as a Millwright/Electrician/Welder/Assistant Maintenance Manager for a sardine cannery, most of a year as a government contract armorer/small arms instructor, and a couple of years doing in-store sales at a building supply outfit (that sucked...).

In between, I was self employed doing property maintenance, landscaping and computer work and drove a plow truck one winter when it was the only job available.

Now I just screw off, tend my hobby farm, do a little small engine work and a very little property maintenance for old customers.

Still haven't decided what I want to do when I grow up...

Edit: I was also a volunteer firefighter for 15 of those years. Engineer/pumper operator and Holmatro Rescue Tool operator/trainer.

i build and repair roads and bridges.today i laid a half mile stretch of asphalt with a road grader.turned out very nice. then came home and ran my bulldozer for a couple hours building food plots.tomorrow i might run a backhoe or drive a dump truck who knows.often work on bridges, we build them from scratch.in winter do a lot of mechanic work on heavy equipment. very rarely do the same thing very many days in a row. love my job!!

Do I see some Habanero peppers in there? I used to grow orange ones and some Red Sovina habaneros. Hot as Hell, but great taste.
