early xs650 production numbers

From 1964 until 1982, my father was a Yamaha Franchised Dealer in East Texas.
I remember that he became a dealer the same year (1964) that the infamous YDS3, 246cc 2-stroke with the "Yama-Lube" oil injection system was first offered .
In November 1971, my father and I traveled to the Buena Park, CA, which at that time was the Yamaha International Coorporation Headquarters location, and picked up one of the first 1972 XS2 650's to arrive stateside. The Vin is # 100214, which is year production bike number 113. I still have this 1972 XS2 (and the Compression Release Starter Still Works).

My XS-1B cost me $1150.00 new and in the crate. I did the assembly and set up that same evening at Vick's Motor Mart in Hendersonville Tennessee. That was in June 1971. Best running 650 I ever saw. I was lead tech and Service
Manager.

I got my first mini bike there in about 1966. Did Vick look like Colonel Sanders?

Suzuki seem to have released a great deal of information about the production volumes of their one time flagship, the GT750.
Their production years did not run smoothly from August to July as you might think, and you start to get a picture of a factory struggling to cope with ever increasing production levels and diversity of models during the 1970's.
No doubt the situation at Yamaha was similar, but so far they seem to be less open about what actually went on behind the scenes.
