HELP! Identify fork tubes.

I was sold a set of fork tubes that were advertised to work on my 35mm xs650 front end.

I just got them and they do not look like the newer style seeing they are smooth the entire length with no indents or holes.

Plus they are 34mm OD and not 35mm
35" total in length

here is a picture of the ends.
Tube on the right is showing the top (I think) with fine threads that go down to a slight step
left is bottom (I think) which has a small groove for a snap ring and then goes down a bit to a step.

leads me to think they are for a xs2

All 650 forks up through '76 were 34mm so I suppose they could be any one of those years. '77 was the first year for the 35mm forks and the only 35mm year that had a snap ring in the bottom of the tube so the parts could be removed. Later tubes crimped those parts in place .....

I would love to sell these. I have no need for them.

I need to get a new set of tubes that will fit in my 1977 xs500 front end that is going on my xs650 (I got a free xs500 and I am stealing the front end off it and the rear 18" mag). The xs500 seems to be the 1978 and later style with the tapered bottoms.

They are definitely not `70-`71, different animal entirely...

What makes them stand out as not being off an early bike.

EDIT: Just read again and you said 70-71. So they could still be a off a 1972-1976?

I don't think any years used a snap ring in the top of the fork tube. I think they all had threaded caps.
Look in your Clymer's book page 122. there is a pic of the XS1 forks. Notice the lower end of the upper fork tube. See the recessed area.
Page 124 is the XS1B forks, again notice the recessed area.
Page 126 is all later forks, notice no recessed area.
All these pics clearly show a threaded fork cap.

Top tube is on the right in the pic and is a threaded cap style.
