lane splitting?

Not legal:

"Not authorized; C.R.S. 42-4-1503 (2) The operator of a motorcycle shall not overtake or pass in the same lane occupied by the vehicle being overtaken. (3) No person shall operate a motorcycle between lanes of traffic or between adjacent lines or rows of vehicles."

Here's the rundown.

I've been to California and done it when traffic is at a standstill, if the cars are moving you might as well bend over and kiss your ass goodbye. Watch the Russian youtubes of lane splitting carnage.

The only lanesplitting I do locally is at a car ferry with three waiting lanes. The cars are backed up three ferry loads worth and I can lane split and get right on the ferry to park between the cars. The expressions I see as I pass the poor schleps who're going to be sitting there for another hour is priceless.

This one was in California at a "standstill", shit still happens.

It is illegal here in Ct. also. i did it twice, once on the bike and once in my car. On the bike i got lucky, the cops were in the first lane and I was to the extream left of the stopped traffic. Not so lucky in the car going down the breakdown lane. Got a $250 fine for that one. When going down the breakdown lane, there was a state cop in the travel lane. Thats when I knew I should have just waited. In Mass, I went to school at Hanscom A.F.B., and 128 would get jamb packed, and everybody uses the breakdown lane there. So, being a Masshole driver, I figured it was ok in Ct., wrong!
All traffic was at a standstill when I did it.

Cali I believe is the only state it is legal. I wouldn't do it at speed anywhere in the states as there are too many bimbos on their cell phones not paying attention. In Europe, I would do it anywhere anytime. Its a different culture with regards to motorcycles there though. Ive gone between cars on the autostrada at 130+mph with the drivers waving at me as I passed.

standstill to 15 mph in WA is legal but LEO will still cite in the name of revenue .

Legal or not if a motorist disagrees with your lane splitting who wins that argument?
I've seen uncounted web video and even personally scraped friends and their bikes off the road because a motorist decided to "enforce" their interpretation of the law by turning into a lane margin or simply opening a door into the path of the bike .

Do you want to be right so badly that you will chance being dead right ?
Up to you but any discussion about right and wrong becomes moot as you're lying on the road bleeding with your ruined motorcycle next to you .

I split stopped traffic often. It is illegal in Texas but I don't give a fuck. They won't build an efficient transition around downtown Dallas, so you can walkacross the Trinity River faster than you can drive most days. They take out the HOV for construction on 35, then wreck 2 of the 4 other roads across the river at the same time, and go write tickets galore in the construction zones. I guess since they can't get people to spend more money in Dallas to prop up the shittiest schools and most inefficient local government in the state, they decided to almost make it illegal to commute through downtown. Unfortunately I work at Love Field north of downtown and live well south of downtown. I drive on the unoccupied sidewalk from time to time. Legal be damned, you can't fix the kind of stupid that is the Dallas city managers office.
I have never in over 1/4 million plus miles of riding, seen anyone open a door in front of a bike. I have seen people close down the lane margin in stopped traffic, but the only actual collisions I have seen or been involved in on a bike are just plain old dumbass inattentive operation of a vehicle.

I lived in dallas for 4 years , spring valley road. I agree what a mess. 95 degrees 95 percent humidity stuck in traffic it sucked bad. I use to split lanes run the emergency lane and break down lane, you got to do what you have to. And that was in the 80's im sure its even more f'ed up now.

It was
, had ape hangers , colors, and a bad ass s n s motor. This guy actually worked on his not one of those guys that buy them to be cool.

Anytime I would split lanes was at a very slow speed. Its a must do just to see the looks on the other drivers faces

Illegal in Saskatchewan, too.
"Operating a motorcycle in the same lane as another vehicle that is not a motorcycle"
Trickling up the inside lane to a traffic light when a pimple-faced teen-cop on a Harley pulled me over, writing a ticket citing the above regulation.
"But there's a 10' wide lane and those cars are parked so don't count"
"Nevertheless"
"See you in court"
I guess the white hair, the suit, the English accent and the bike magazine article about how to get around in London showing a BSA splitting lanes between two double-decker buses and the Bobbies on the sidewalk not writing him no ticket that I showed the magistrate did the trick.
"This case should never have been brought to court"
