Hi all
I'm trying to choose some shocks with a longer travel of 360mm for my street tracker project but shocks of this length that will fit are designed for heavier bikes .
XS650 is 200kg or so and the bikes that have these shocks ( YSS TOPLINE RANGE ) are about 260kg and these are adjustable shocks so I'm interested on people's opinions whether I would see any difference to shocks rated at 200kg ? ?
Bear in mind I'm a weekend rider not a race track raver :bike::bike:

Most rear shocks have preload adjustment for the spring. What ever shock you buy. when installed measure the length from the top mount bolt to the bottom mount bolt. Do this with out any weight on the bike. Now with some help to hold the bike up straight and to measure, get on the bike. Set in your riding position. Have help to hold bike up, have help to measure from top to bottom as before.
Subtract the second measurement from the first. This is your sag. It should be about 25-30 mm for a good ride. 15-20 for a more sporty ride.

Ok cheers Leo for the advice , so the answer to the question is sort of If I buy shocks listed as sport derived bike they will be stiffer with less sag . Its only the fact I don't want to waste $600 on shocks that ain't right , but hey it's all a learning curve I guess on my first build

Yes but the Hagon ones are pretty boring looking don't you think ?
I know its about how good they work but I'd like them to work as good as they look , regards mark

I can't see my suspension with my fat ass in the seat but I can damn sure feel it! For that kind of cabbage they had better damn well be able to build to suit your bike and your weight, damping included. It would be stupid to shell out that much cash on suspension and not get top shelf goods. I hope your practical side tells your artistic side to go fuck itself til it catches on fire and you make the right call here. You gonna ride it, or look at it and jack off?

Nothing fancy at all about them, but late model Triumph Bonneville shocks can be bought fairly cheap, and are of the length you mention. I put them on my tracker for more license plate clearance.

Your shocks look fine but just not the look I'm after on my bike , chrome in the Damp old UK pits about 10 mins after fitting lol .
£300 uk pounds is still low end cost as wilbers shocks $1500 and ohlins the same , I've had cheap gas shocks on another bike and they were pants to be honest , anyway I'm sure if I don't waste my money on crap my wife will .
Regards sparky

Good point. My buddy told me that men, we were put on this earth to work, women, they were put here to go shopping, lol.

Hi 5twins,
as one who is retired and who's wife is still employed I have to say that your buddy is a sexist bigot.
As for shopping, you can buy a hell of a lot of shoes for the price of a decent bike, eh?
But about those shocks, surely they can be fitted with lighter springs?
