My first ever bike build!!

:yikes: Bummer Man.
well I hope ya don't have to do left leg squats to keep the legs the same size
get friends with bikes and do this

That's crazy! Lol

I managed to do SOMETHING today! Took me a couple of hours, hoping I will be able to finish it off on Monday as the out-laws are coming tomorrow unfortunately!

Started the battery mount! I figured, if I can't hide the battery, then show it off!! If you can't hide it, flaunt it!!

Not assembled yet, but at least I have cut it out! Made of 1mm brass plate.

Managed to finish off the battery holder! Just need to get a decent belt to go over the battery, so I will be shopping tomorrow. Now I just need to wire up the battery, and IN THEORY, she should run........... Fingers crossed. Hopefully this will all happen tomorrow!

Some pics........

Still got to mount it with hardware and trim the rivets a bit on the inside, and I also want to add some foam for protection(and Isolation!!) on the inside.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that is a very nice battery tray AW you sure a talented chap.

Now then...... wots all this about not working :D
Tell us what happened and what you did to try to start her up. :wink2:

Cheers Peanut! It did turn out not too bad!

Battery works fine, all lights and electronics fire up when I turn the key and toggle the switch to allow power to them( did this to allow all power to go to the coils on start up), there is spark because she spat at me a few times out the carbs, and a couple out the exhaust, battery is fully charged, all lights are off when I kick her over, yet she does not want to turn over.

Got some easy start, and that only worked occasionally, again just a pop then nothing, it's like there isn't enough oomph to get the pistons going. I put the engine to just before TDC,opened throttle fully, squirted some in both sides, closed throttle, turn ignition, and kick, and a little pooof occasionally comes out the exhaust.

I then got fresh fuel to see if that made a difference, no it didn't. (this time I didn't flood the carbs, I would kick her over ten times or so, turn off the fuel tap, and wait 15 mins, and repeat.

Almost took it out on the road down the hill to bump start it, but I decided if it wasn't going to work, I would probably leave the fecker at the bottom of the hill!!!

Oh yes, on the odd occasion, when I kicked her over, the kicker would just go down as if I was pulling the clutch, not sure if this is normal?

Maybe my legs ain't powerful enough to kick her over.......................

Hey, Airwolfie! You've transitioned into daddyhood now. The world is a different place.

Until you get her (it is a 'she', right?) dialed-in, and learn her kickstart personality, you may find that you will need to pull the plugs often to see what's going on. Once the plugs get wet-fouled, there's little chance that they'll fire.

One trick that sometimes works (if you suspect wet-foul) is turn off the fuel, open throttle fully, ignition 'on', and keep kickin' thru it. If it catches, drop the throttle a bit and feather it. This should clear out the fouling and heat up the plugs. If it continues to run, switch on the fuel, see if it tries to rich/choke.

Y' know, we really need some kinda glossary for this 'gear-head' lingo...

Hi wolfie,
rather than my having to wade through 42 posted pages to find out, could you let me know, did the bike ever run good?

might be a clue here perhaps. .....

If there is no compression at the moment of firing you might have the same situation as Gordon had.
If the valves are not adjusted on each cylinder when that particular cylinder is at the top of its compression stroke then the valves do not seat fully on cranking the engine.
Did you turn the engine 360 degrees after adjusting one set of valves before adjusting the second set ?

I believe its something to do with the asymetrical arrangement of the camshaft lobes but Twomany will hopefully confirm that . :wink2: I'm probably talking bollox as usual :wink2:

Mmm just read Twomany's post ......... I had forgotten that the bike ran a while back . if the valves haven't been adjusted since then then I'm stumped .! If it has compression and it has fuel (easy start ) then it can only be a lack of a spark at the right time !.

Might be worth checking the Boyer setup again , are the two leads to the red box switched maybe ? cut off switch not open circuit ?
you could try some of this:laugh::laugh:

Hey fred, as Peanut showed, she does run, well DID. And really good, no stumbles when I blipped the throttle.

NOTHING has changed mechanically since then, and also the boyer box and ignition stayed put as I was doing the wiring. I will get some fresh plugs this weekend, and maybe try and bump start her down the hill, I do think she will run, there is just not enough oomph to keep going at first. Hopefully she will go! I'll keep you posted!

Peanut I got some easy start, but maybe it needs a little verbal abuse to get 'er going!! START, Ya BASTARD!!! LOL

you'll be pushing too hard to say anything AW:laugh::laugh:

Reckon you're right .Probably just needs the engine turning over faster ......like on a starter ....ahem... cough ...oh you haven't got one of those have you :wink2:

Mine didn't start until I'd turned it over for quite a few seconds on the starter and then it needed three goes.

have you got a mate that could tow start you ? that would give you a good bit of speed and also the time to experiment with the throttle/choke etc . He could also tow you back

good luck matey you're going to beat me afterall
