'79 xs650 Modern Cafe Build

I don't think you can go wrong either way... Dual disks are overkill for braking needs, but it helps with the balance (look-wise) of the front...definitely not critical in my opinion.

Looking good!

My $.02 on the dual discs: I had dual stock discs for a while, but went to one when I swapped to R6 forks and R6 (blue dot) four-pot caliper. When you can barely get over 100mph, the extra disc is pretty much a fashion accessory. Nothing wrong with that. If you like the look, go for it. I went with one to save the many pounds of unsprung weight.

Looking forward to seeing this finished.

Thanks guys. I'll probably mount up both, and then drop one if I feel it's too much.

Thanks for following also!

I finished machining all the parts for the front wheel and brakes. The hub will be polished and laced up to a new 19x2.15" rim.

Been off the board awhile on other projects; glad I checked back in!
Great ideas and execution.

My $0.02: you can't be too thin, too rich, or have too much brake. I converted a KLR650 front end to dual disks for my build.

PM sent on another item.

Sorry for the slow update. I picked up another cb350 for a build and sell project. The plan is to build a light and nimble scrambler. Nothing too groundbreaking, but completely re-built with detail and craftsmanship.

As for the xs, I received my tires, tubes etc. The rims are Excel, 19x2.5 front and 18x3.5 rear. The hubs were powder coated satin black.

Everything was great and I was very excited to lace up my fresh wheels when I found that my new spokes were too long for the drop center Excel rim. I had ordered these spokes to fit with the deep drop center, but no-go. I pulled some measurements and it seems that I just need spokes sized as if I were lacing to a 18" rim.

I just wanted to post a quick update to keep this thread to date for anyone whom may be following.
Recently the xs650 has been sitting neglected while I've been working on some customer fabrication projects.

I've also been plucking away on the cb350 scrambler that I am building to be sold when complete. I recently finished up the new tube subframe and aluminum electronics tray.

I hope to have some updates on the xs soon!

SOMTHING NEW?? :p

Unfortunately, not a whole lot new with the xs650. I've been accumulating some little parts here and there, but nothing to really post about.
But, I have been busy. I attended a metal shaping class to improve my shaping skills, and I will be hand making the xs650's tank, tail and side panels from aluminum. Here are a few pics from the class. I made an aluminum chopper style tank with knee indents. To be honest I think it's an ugly tank, but I designed it to be a challenging shape.

I've also been working hard on my cb350 project. I am currently making that tank at home. Here are some progress pics of that.
