I'm just making sure that I haven't forgot anything. I'm going to make an order on friday. I'm going to buy a gasket set on ebay and save $20 and I already have new rings. What do you guys think?

Hi bergoff,
your list don't show new pistons & a rebore.
You gonna check piston/bore clearance, ring/ring groove vertical clearance & de-glaze the cylinder bores, right?

You won't need the o-ring kit, they come in the gasket set. I also wouldn't recommend the O.E.M. style cylinder head sealing washers. Use the brass ones instead.

You may want to invest in a 6mm x 1.0 tap to fix the threads in the front slipper.

The engine was running strong when I took it out. The cam chain guide was falling apart. When I take it to my friend shop he is going to check the cylinders. If it needs a bore it's going to 700cc.

I completely forgot about boats.net thanks. Do you guys usually replace your cam chain tensioner assembly? Mine has wear but doesn't look to bad.

I've never replaced a rear tensioner. They usually show a little wear but don't suffer from the failure problems associated with the front guides (they don't fall apart). If you're going to get the front guide from boats.net (which I recommend), you might as well get the cam chain there too .....

This is a Tsubaki chain which many of us feel is better (stronger) than the D.I.D. The price is better too which will help offset the higher cost of the O.E.M. front guide. I bought one of these last year and it was split and came with a master link.

Thanks for all the tips guys. I found the gasket set on amazon and saved $25. I ordered the front cam chain guide and chain from Boat.net and the rest from Mikes. My bike has only been torn apart for 2 years. I've been busy with kids and work. I'm really looking forward to getting it back together.

I know this an old thred but I will be overhauling my engine from the ground up. It’s a 1972 xs2. It spent several years in the rain. Any advice? I’m also looking for a list of items I need to overhaul my engine.

Ask around before buying any parts at all...........lots of local knowledge on who supplies the best part for quality.......sometimes the cheapest is not the best especially when it come to rubber parts...........
