Home made center stand. Cost me $5 for the athletic tape i bought at dicks .. the pipe was in the rafters in my garage when i moved in .. took 20 minutes to weld and paint and works perfectly.

Great and simple idea. I would weld a handle on the end so my fingernails didn't have to be worn off trying to grab the bar

Hinge the lever where it joins on, so it swings in the direction of up in the last photo. Makes it easier to get the bike off with no effect on getting it on. Put locking pins in the frame to adjust height and have a useful commercial product. Made in U.S.A.! Happy days are here again!

Yeah, about 3 1/2" from the frame. I could draw one, but a tin bender could make a better one. He'd reach for his ancient copy of "The Hinge, from Aresthosenes to Zalantos" and pick out a good one.

Well the nice thing is the handle is open at the end of it .. but .. the angle of the crossbar seems perfect. I can put my index finger in the end of it and pick up with little effort and the bike lifts like its nothing. I made it so that i could center the bike with the rear wheel up in the air .. its fast and simple and keeps me from having to use a bottle jack w a 2X4 anymore, which makes me happy. I would tip the handle up at the end on the next one just for the sake of arguement but the way it is now still works for me..

I know A guy that makes these for Harleys. The end of the handle is bent up so when its down the handle is off the ground. His are also a little bigger too. And the handle folds in for storage. They work awesome!

I have made an xs engine stand with car engine stand. I can rotate the engine upside down to work on the lower half or even have it on the side for putting the clutch assembly back together. The best thing is I can wheel it out to work on and then wheel it away.

Engine cleaning or welding or going to be sitting for a long time?
You want your ports plugged to keep the nasties out.
The exhaust is easy; head to a home store and get a pair of 1 1/2" dollar or test plugs. They are designed to plug an 1 1/2" PVC pipe, they fit in the exhaust port, tighten the wing nut and you are done.


The intakes are a little trickier because they are smaller and standard plumbing plugs don't fit.
The easy way is the rubber collar from the handle bar mounts. it's an exact fit, a bolt two washers nut, tighten and the port is sealed. Rubber test tube corks work too. A number 7 is about right they come with a hole already in them. The plywood cover? Not so much.



Gotta love the PO that "customized" this poor XS engine.

Stupid simple but a very useful tool EVERYONE should have and can afford. Don't crank your engine without the plugs attached and grounded this is the simplest method I know of to ground and be able to see the spark. 18" of bare copper house wire. wrap each end around a plug base, check spark, done.

i just use a small c-clamp to hold the plug on its side to the fins on the jug... tight enough to keep it there but not bend the fins

Whit a fridge compressor in five minutes you can change and purge all the brake liquid and also is great for test the vacuum fuel key. Only engage the pump connect to the blench and open make sure is always brake fluid in the reservoir.
