Hi there.

Recently picked up my first bike. 1979 xs650. Found it for sale over a year ago, came across it again a few weeks ago at a local shop, couldn't pass it up again.

Swapped mirrors, redid the seat mounting bolt, and made a speedo relocation bracket. It's pretty rough since I lacked proper tools, but I'm really happy with how it's coming.

Got a decent list of stuff I want to get done to it. Idle settings is next on the list.

Looking forward to learning from you all.

You may have problems tuning the carbs with those pods. CV carbs don't work well with pleated pods, tapered pods, or elements that are physically too small. Yours are all three, lol.

Yes, UNI foam pods. If you use pods, these work about the best. Most select the UP4229 or UP4229ST (dual layer) for the BS34 carbs. They are 4" long and pretty much the most you can fit in between the carbs and battery box. The I.D. of the mounting flange is 2 1/4" Your carb intake bells are about 2 1/8". The next smaller size offered has a 2" I.D. It's a very tight stretch fitting them on BS34s. They are the size we use on the BS38s. They fit perfectly .....

Thanks brotha! I'll get my hands on some of those. Any chance you could point me in the right direction of where to find a step by step to adjust my idle?

It's my understanding that my engine has 3 adjustment points, but I have zero idea of where the ones on the carbs themselves are haha.

Looking at 5twins picture or at you bike from the left side. You see the end of the throttle cable? On the other end of that lever is the idle adjustment screw.
