some wiring diagrams

excellent post skull and a great diagram from jayel.

All the tech info you could ever want is on this site...... somewhere .....it just needs re-collating, sifting and a complete reoganisation.
A huge amount of work. Maybe we could seperate all the various sections and have volunteers for each section compile all the relevant info and organise and index it. It really needs a group of members to manage it on a daily basis, adding useful stuff to the tech database and keeping it clear and organised
 
Those diagrams are on Page 1. 1st one is in post #1 second is in post #19 and there are a lot in-between.

I have been bookmarking threads since 2010. just making up the Pamco Ignition thread, i would have spent over 10 hours on it and it still has some work for it to be complete. Without the bookmarks it could have taken 1/2 as long, or more, again. I guess it is up to the individual to decide if they want to do these sorts of things.

yeah I guess you're probably right ... apathy rules these days when peoples attention span seems to barely rival that of a knat.
I know you have done a prodigeous amount of work both on here and other forums and we have a lot to thank you for especially the ID info .
It's just that I get frustrated at having to search for information on any subject and expect to have everything accessible and at my fingertips. I work at a superfast pace and need methodical order and organisation ,I cannot work in a mess either physical or written ;)

The important thing is that Travis keeps all this wealth of precious information safe for us to access whenever we need it. Many other forums have crashed or had problems and lost everything because stuff wasn't backed up . Such a tragic waste.

So this is my first post and I figured I'd get some input. I've read through the forums and have pretty much built my bike from all of the info from this site. So I would like to thank you guys for that. I'm on the wiring now and this is the diagram that I've chosen. Altered it a little but it's pretty much the same. Wanting to know if this will work with what I have an 81 stock ignition and charging with starter.
 
As simple as I wanted to go I figured this was the most I wanted from the wiring. And wouldn't the starter button be the cuttof since I'm running a momentary switch?
 
Safety relay shuts off the power to the starter motor as soon as it catches. Stops an accidental engagement and for that time between engagement and button release.

Diagram looks good to me

This is what I have came up with. Have couple of questions..
- Is the red/white wire from the solenoid on its own fuse necessary?
- If it can.. what amp fuse should I run?
- Does the coil terminal make sense? (from kill switch and from ignition together)
 
You have to hots to solenoid ONE IS hot 12 volts and other goes to button ground or you use two pin button and ground one side and put 12 volts in and out of button. I do 4 position fuse boxes only one by itself is coil and pamco and I run all 15 am fuses. You can use smaller on some.
The blue/white and red/white is just the switch part .

looks like there may be an anomaly with the ground (earth ) wires to me .? Why is there a ground wire shown from the stator ?

Does your regulator use the negative wire to regulate the charging output from the alternator ?
If it regulates the charging by shorting the ground wire then you don't want an additional ground wire from the rotor inner ring because that would bypass the regulator and give a constant full charging output to the battery surely.?

Well thats my understanding anyway perhaps someone with a better understanding could clarify

thats as I expected DG.
A PMA rotor doesn't need grounding like it shows in gregkegs drawing so I suspect that it is just a symbol from a copy paste schematic that hasn't been removed.

Changed the starter solenoid. Wasn't thinking :doh:

just a minor thing but your schematic shows the rear tail light constantly on with the ignition and it doesn't switch on with your headlight.
I would expect the live feed (yellow) to supply both the headlight and the tail light from the same switch and fuse.
A ground to the signal lamps would complete the schematic nicely .;)
 
Hello, I own a xs2 from 1972. A solid state regulator, an ACCEL coil 140405, a set of 2 capacitors (I think should be used just 1), and the 2 points old system. I got me 3 nylon screws for ungrounding the armature (saw a diagram on xs650chopper.com). No electrical starter and a couple of blinks with a flasher and stop light for the rear. Am from Spain living in México and not supergood level of english (sorry so much for that...). I an 100% new in electrical stuff. Would be very grateful for a helping hand... Almost 3 years building my bike and desperate for riding my bike! My best wishes to all...!

Haha thanks man! First thing is that I need some helping with the color wiring from the solid state regulator to the stator. This last one is got decoloured wires... I see black, green, and 4 more that are between yellow and dirty white... the regulator is got red, black, green and 4 more that seems yellow, but not sure about where goes the fourth one, because the diagram shows one unused.
