Thank you. Just got Pamco, $338. kit from Mikes, no instructions. Do I disconnect my TCI and where do I disconnect it?

Everything I look at on forums says nothing about disconnecting the OEM TCI from my 1980 sx650. Just says how to hook up Pamco.

Yes you remove all of it, pretty much like the pics. unplug, unbolt, remove. Pickups can be removed from stator, best not to cut any wires, any components that still work have value to others here.

Really appreciate your reply. Could you send me a pic or a site that shows how to do all that. I can't find anything. Thanks

Just don't understand why when we spend that much money on a system they can not throw in the complete instructions. It is so easy to fry an expensive electrical system.

Many manufacturers provide installation instructions on line. This reduces the cost and also makes it possible to provide the latest instructions.

I completely agree, trying to get a road map as to install a Pamco on a TCI XS650 is like pulling teeth. I have spent hours searching this forum to get a picture in my mind of the steps needed to the install. Can you unplug the wire from the TCI to the coil and be done with it, OR , Do you have to cut power to the TCI by unplugging it? All i can say is that the instructions for the Boyer is even more of a question mark.

Maybe it's just me but, I think a lot of folks over think the installation of the PAMCO. Maybe it's the use of a non-stock or butchered wiring loom that confuses others.

Looked through all the installation instructions and get right back to the same question. There are 2 wires going to the coil now with one 12 volt that energizes the coil 12 volts. The other goes to the kill switch. What do you do with these wires because all the diagram shows is the Pamco wires going to these terminals.

Well first off...............this thread was for the Factory Electronic Ignition, (TCI), identification and placement..............NOT a Pamco thread..............

Second...............done a Google search for Pamco instructions for an XS650.................multiple hits.............

Third...........done a site search for Pamco instructions...............multiple threads..............

Forth..............was the link to the Pamco thread read...............??...........because the question i asked wasn't answered.............

Fifth............can you read an electrical diagram...........???............Do you know what diafam you need to look at....???...........do you know where the diargrams are.....???

sixth............miksXS has a list of instructions for all of his parts that need it............also has a link to the instructions for the pamco on the page and where you read and looked at the pamco before clicking on the Buy button

Pamco thread linked to.

Frustration gets in the way of sense and reason at times........Don't just ask questions without stopping to think and ask your self, am i, or have i really done all i can without getting confused, and is the confusion stopping me from thinking rationally.

Did all that, but every diagram shows the same coil hook up, but does not show the existing 12 volt and kill switch wires. All I am trying to find out is where do these existing wires play into the hook up. If I do not use them where is the power coming from to energize the 12 volt coil and to go to the kill button. Yes I can read a schematic, but all the components have to be shown. Don't want to fry the electronic system. I have a 1980 sx650 special,

Power...........from battery........To ignition....from ignition, Br to fuses........from fuses to kill switch, R/W.........Power comes from the kill button R/W.......Needs 7.5 fuse here .....to pamco/coil.......
Colours may vary depending on year of model and if the diagram is correct..

Pamco thread.........read Post 2, first question and Pamcopete's answer.............at the end of the paragraph it explains the use of the kill switch.

If you don't want to fry the pamco read the Pamco thread and warnings............especially the part in the paragraph above

Pamco instructions. http://www.xs650.com/threads/pamco-ignition.46859/ Read through this and tell me what needs to be done to make it complete

This section is written by engineers for engineers. Yes I can read a schematic. Bad boys rape our young girls... Their are no pictures! The section installing the advance is good.

The E-Advancer basically is wired in between the PAMCO plate wiring and the coil. The label on the E-Advancer points to the right to the wires from the sensor plate and to the left to the wires going to the coil. If you are installing the E-Advancer in an existing standard PAMCO ignition setup, then start by Disconnecting the red, green and black wires going to the coil from the sensor plate.

1. Connect the red, green and black wires from the sensor plate to the red, green and black wires from the E-Advancer wires pointed to by the arrow on the right side of the E-Advancer box.

2. Connect the red, green and black wires from the left side of the E-Advancer box to the coil, battery and ground with the red wire going to the switched battery terminal of the coil, the green wire going to the other coil terminal and the black wire going to a suitable frame ground.

3. Mount the E-Advancer in any convenient location, but not directly above the engine or near the ignition coil. The best place is under the left side air filter cover simply tie wrapped to the wiring harness.

I put mine where the old fuses were. On top of the battery.
