Hey Gurus
Been chasing a volt drop somewhere on the bike and it seems to be from the CDI. I am down about .5v every time i plug it back in.
Is this correct for powering up the CDI?

Stock TCI??
yes TCI pulls some amperage, AFAIK it powers the coil for a little bit. It has a timer that shuts it down if you don't spin the motor. It has to have some internal draw but probably not much, never noticed one get warm. Bike running?
Have you rebuilt the ignition switch?

Hey gggGary
Fantastic man thanks for the quick reply.
I thought the system pulled down some juice as i read somewhere 3A turning the key on, stock Alternator and CDI. No ignition rebuild.
It was running fine but most of this wiring is 40yr crud.
i am getting ready to upgrade the ignition and just running over everything before starting into it.
Thanks

Stock the big draw is the alternator, rotor is 5-6 ohms. tail light also comes on with key. iggy switch contact clean up is an easy R&R and will almost always give some benefit. Same for the kill switch.

Cheers
I will strip them down and silcone grease the contacts as well as cleaning all plugs and lightly silicone grease too replacing the junk wires as I go.
Big Thanks.

May need to clarify what you have and what your doing................79 Specials were Factory points ignition models....i see you have bought a Hughs PMA with CDI ignition...........If your 79 has been converted to Factory Electronic ignition it is a TCI........??????.......Factory stock alternator and CDI.....doesn't compute ????

I forgot...........yours is a Japanese import....no points????...... Factory TCI????..... BS34's????................Should post this information in your signature for peoples future reference........These Japanese Models were different, (in terms of components to the year/model) to the rest of the world....

Yeah sorry guys i will update this. It has been hard trying to find the correct wiring diagram.
I am using parts of the SH and some of SE diagrams.
Not sure where i was getting the CDI from but what i mean is TCI.
Thanks
