I searched and can't come up with a good answer.

I simply want to cut the wires from the back of my stock key ignition and run them to a toggle switch so i can throw away my key. I'm leaving everything else where it is, like the stock engine kill switch. is it as simple as just running the red wire to the on post of a single pole toggle switch and all the rest of the wires to the other post? There are 6 wires running to the stock ignition.

You want to use a toggle switch in the same spot as the stock ignition key? You sure you want everyine to be able to start your bike at any time they want?

No not the same spot. Ill hide it, im just saying i want the switch to do the same thing the key did

:umm: 77 iggy switch (#1 top left in the diagram), has four wires; red, brown, blue, red/white.
Note the wires are a bit off register to the switch positions, shift all the wires a bit to the right then it should make sense.

Put blue, red/white, and brown on on terminal, red on the other, done. I don't think you need the blue, it gets powered from the lights switch in the RH control. If some rewiring has been done, this may be different on your bike now.

I've replaced the key with a blue led toggle on my cafe. Bought the toggle at Autozone. Slides right in the electrical plug. A little silicone and the switch should stay. There's really small maybe m4 screws to make a plate if wanted. Switch hasn't moved yet. I bought a compass at Wal Mart to cover the key hole. Still would like to find a better compass, clock or something. Just giving ya some ideas. This had been a year or so ago. Don't recall any major fab of that key switch mount. As far as the wiring goes, what a bitch. A few weeks back I had to re wire a complete bike to the factory gauges. No fun. All the others I just completely rewire. Battery to toggle. Toggle to fuse box. Fuse box to everything else. That simple.

Awesome this helps out i think. So it does actually seem as simple as that. The on position of the spst toggle switch will act as position 1 on the stock key ignition. If i add the blue wire to the toggle switch does that mean the headlight will be on no matter what when the bike is on?

Also, is it safe to just cut the power(red) wire from the ignition and seal the end properly and leave it loose inside the headlight housing and then just run a new power wire from the battery(after the fuse and starter) to the new toggle switch? since it will be basically next to the battery.

My headlight is on when my toggle is on. Yes.

^^ I agree. This should work. You should be good because of the fuse off your battery. Just to be safe don't get to high amp toggle.
