Came across this on Wish and looks compact enough matched to a vr794.
130A is overkill but complete reg/rec for under $40AUD.
Is it worthwile?

That's just the rectifier. You'y still need to buy a regulator.

I don't recall the P/N right now - but you can likely get a combined automotive solid state regulator/rectifier for that money or less. It will be compact, robust, waterproof and work perfectly.

I bought the one from MikesXS (running and hiding now....) and while it did cost around $70 CDN, it really does work fine. Many folks have gotten the same or equivalent part for less than half that much.

$12.00 three phase rectifier........ and matched to a vr794..............that's what i read..........Good deal.........don't think the extra Amps matter.......may still need to attach a heat sink???

I like the screw terminals vs the usual 1/4" spades.

My own adventures taught me to stay away from no-name cheap rectifiers. This one isn't too cheap, though. I ended up paying about 12USD for the Windy Nation rectifier on my bike. Chinese manufacture, I'm sure, but a bit more QC than the $2 jobs that go direct to online auction by the gross.

I was thinking about a heat sink or mounting to a thick aluminium plate where the original stock Reg/Rec sits might take the heat away.
This would be the wire schematic for the set up correct?

That diagram is for a TCI ignition Bike.......Is your bike a US import 80 and later, (TCI), or Aus Compliance plate points model.

Rectifier and automotive a direct swap as per diagram Points set up

The diagram with of those rectifiers are single Phase that's why there are 2 of them On yours there should be a + (red wire), and - (black wire and the other three are for the white wires

Yep TCI model as it is a 79 G Japanese model but one of the first TCI models. I was excluding the single phase rectifiers and using the above 3 phase so other than that the main wiring is ok. Looks simple enough and I purchased VR794 reg and above rec deliverd for $38 AUD total. Looks like a good little project and time to upgrade the 40 year old original reg/rec. Will update you on progress.
Cheers Skull.

Yes, there were two versions of the 650 charging system, each using a different type of regulator, but the rectifiers used by both were the same.

Yep A & B. Done a heap of reading and testing and I have the A system regulator but rec's dont change. Thanks 5t.

Well I'll be, looks like photobucket is free hosting again. Guess their greedy money grab didn't work out as well as they'd hoped, lol.

Photo bucket has been visible/available for ages.......Used to be able to download pics...........since they became visible again they have stopped the downloads.

Didn't make any difference as i had a fix that opened them up when they had the blackout

Looks like from 10th October Photobucket is back to free hosting and will insert a watermark on your photos used. Here is the email sent to account holders but some many ditched there account they might not have got it.

Starting October 10th , you will see a discreet “Proudly hosted on Photobucket” watermark on any images you display on sites other than Photobucket.

This change will allow us to continue offering our image hosting service to you as a free user. If you don’t mind the watermark and wish to continue as a free user, you won’t need to do anything. If you prefer no watermarking, simply upgrade to one of our affordable premium plans starting at $4.03 per month and enjoy all of the benefits of membership
