XS650 No Theme Build

Hmm.... just noticed the "hidden" pigtail. Nicely done bro. :D You always take it to the next level...

I got lots of practice on the Go Karts. Everything had to be pinned or safety wired. The last pic explains the only 2 theories of Kart racing!
One: you can never have enough carburator`s
Two: you can never add too much Nitro.:yikes:

The brake rotor is so cool! Safety wire looks so much better than those stupid tabs... How many other places on the bike could you use safety wire? Rear sprocket, fuel lines... Where does it end? I dunno, but I'm willing to find out!

The motor I`m going to use in the build had been painted silver then flat black (everything). The sad thing is it ran great and was spotless inside with clean oil and no debris in either of the filters. The paint to PO used was total Wallmart Crap :poo: so it was easy to strip and wipe off with solvent. I dressed all the rough edges on all the fins and rough sanded them, masked the necessary openings and painted with a semi-gloss black. Ceramic type. After the paint passes it`s critical period I`ll remove it from the edges of the fins and detail them. Trying to get this piece of junk on it`s wheels before the snow flies.

Funny you should mention that? I`ve got another head ready to be ported and I plan on drilling holes in both the head and block fins. Already planning another project and this one`s not even on it`s wheels yet. I must be doing something right!:yikes::umm::shootme::shrug:

This just might be your sharpest looking motor. They do look good painted black and I like the treatment you did on the edge of the fins!

Almost done removing the paint from the fins but I`m on the fence about this. I don`t think I`m into painted motors. Maybe after all the polished tappet covers and chrome upper mounts and other stuff I`ll like it better. Vapor Blast next time.

Yeah, me three. Not a huge fan, but that looks really sharp. If the rest of the build went with it, it could be a snappy looking bike...

The engine looks great Halfmile. I opted for the midnight silverado edition for my Roadstar cause of the black engine and silver fins. I am not into engine paint either unless it is from factory. My 83 came with a silver painted engine which was messed up. Took some lacquer thinner to it and cleaned up some but man its hard to get in all the cracks when its all assembled. Still have parts to scrape/remove off. 20170228_184517.jpg 20170228_184503.jpg

Well I guess it looks a little better with the masking paper off and a few polished component`s back on. I`ll install new clutch rod seal and bushing and maybe a shifter shaft seal and as far as I`m concerned the "Flat Rate`s Up". Time to put the engine in the frame and live with it. Looks better than the before pic.:yikes:

It does, indeed, halfmile. I hope to make a similar transformation to the engine in "The Basketcase". But, that is another story... :wink2:

Today I laid the motor on it`s side and put a block under the cyl fins to level it, lowered the frame down over it and put in the bottom and rear lower mounting bolts, then sat the frame-motor upright. Took about 30 seconds and not a scratch. It`s 98% done! Just a couple more minor things to do.
