Nice pic Jim.
Might be best to cut out the section of frame, so that Pete can cut off the brackets, but before he does that he will be able to take measurements and get the positioning exactly right before cutting off the bracket/tabs.............The angle and position is pretty crucial i would say.......

Pete, I have the spring also, I will get this cut off this weekend and get it sent out early next week. No need for thanks, glad to give back to the people who make this forum such a great place to be. Robin was one of those people, and if giving a small part will help his son keep Robin's beloved XS in the family and on the road I'm more than glad to help.

'77 and later stands are all the same. The '82 and '83 stands are essentially the same with a couple added tabs for the side stand switch, as mentioned. Here's the one I pulled off my '83 (on the left) and the earlier "no tabs" version I replaced it with .....
You'll need the associated mounting parts as well, in particular the spring post bracket. Most are still available from Yamaha .....

A couple more little things - the parts diagram I linked to has the spring post bracket drawn incorrectly. It shows the post on the bottom, below the pivot. It should be above the pivot as shown in my drawing above. Also, the "loose" end of the spring goes up. Not sure if that matters or not, but that's how all the drawings show it and that's how I've always installed them. It may provide more clearance for the mounting bolt head that way.

Reminds me I got to cut off part of the switch mount of the spring tab since I am not using a switch. Will make it easier to get to that sump plate bolt down on that side. Glad all worked out for Robin's family. Thanks Pete! J-C

yeah that's a nice stand, AND bracket, too bad they're not the late model versions. (stand or bracket)

One advantage for using that bracket instead of the later ones is if a sump extension was ever considered in the future...........cant be used with the 77 and later stands. Not enough room without removing the side stand all together...........Note, 5twins second pic in post #70
IIRC the 76 exhaust is the same as the 77-79 so the stand should work?
An extra brace on the tang would come in handy
I’m virtually certain the Robin’s son won’t be experimenting with sump extensions and yes, the ‘76 and later ‘77 and ‘78 exhausts are identical (Robin and I compared his ‘77D and my ‘76C) - so yup, I think that stand will do fine Jamie.
