Rode my 650 for the first time in 35 or years today. Like a lot of bikes back then the turn signals were one of the first things removed. Illinois still does not require them. Well anyway riding it today I realized hand signals have one advantage over lights. To my knowledge no manufacture has been able to equal this advantage. Care to guess what that is.

Close. But my other bikes just need a thumb to cancel them.

Now before anyone gets the wrong impression I'm no way saying that hand signals are safer or better than lights.

...hand signals have one advantage over lights...

Ummmm,

- It still works regardless of blown fuse or bulbs?

- It prevents simultaneous use of the horn?

- It prevents clutch usage?

- It doubles as a "howdy" to other riders?

- It's self canceling?

- It helps to get blood recirculating in a numb hand?

- It keeps you from doing stupid stuff, since you're now steering one-handed?

Hi GLJ,
I can see three disadvantages:-
why did that fool give a Communist salute and then turn right?
Why did that idiot give a Fascist salute and then turn left?
Why is that moron patting an imaginary dog?
The only advantage I can guess is that, unlike a flashing signal light, it's most likely being given on purpose.
