It's past time to start XS2 Resurrection

To test the coil, I think you want your extension wires run off the two small coil terminals. When it's good, you would see around the coil's rated primary value (2.8 or maybe up to about 3 ohms). When things crap out, that would change if it's the coil.

You do have point Jim......
Just so we're clear... I wasn't pointing at the coil. Rather, was trying to rule it out as the culprit. I think the steady current through it rules it out... at least the pri side. Couldn't be the secondary because cooling the Pamco board wouldn't cause the sec. to suddenly start working. My opinion is you pretty much narrowed it down to the Pamco board.

True, but the amp flow also indicates resistance.

One last thing you could try... let it idle 'till the problem starts. Keep an eye on the ammeter. As soon as it's starts to act up, give it a good squirt of shop air. Should almost immediately recover and current should remain constant throughout.

I might give that a try, but I feel like I'm beating on a dead horse. I do wish Pete would chime in.

No news on the PAMCO problem. I saw he was online Saturday and sent him another PM. Monday morning I sent an email to both addresses listed on his web site. I think he is aware of my problem because this was his recent activity yesterday.

I'm not sure what to do next to get some after sales help on this problem. I understand he's a busy guy, but if he's tied up with something he could take 2 minuets to email, post or message me that he is aware of the problem and will get back to me.
Anyone have any idea what my next step should be??

Already looked into Boyer. Most likely the direction I go. I really like the way the PAMCO works when it works. I also like the fact that it's all in the point housing. I'm sure I can find a place to mount the blue box if necessary.

Boyer is a good proven product, a forum friend Daniel Black runs a Boyer system and when he had a problem with his, he called customer service and someone immediately answered and helped him with his problem. He swears by Boyer.
I am also a fan of Pamco ignitions, I have two of them, but customer service is important.

I am by no stretch of the imagination an “Expert”, but, I have had a similar problem although with my 68 Trophy. I was using a different coil to the one specified and after a short time, much like yourself the bike would stop only to restart after a short rest. I was advised to put a 1ohm resistor in the power wire to the coil. In my case it worked.
Not sure how a Pamco works, I’m sure it will switch the ground side of the coil, so the resistor may lighten the load on both the coil and the trigger unit. Worth a try. Great story by the way.

As an option to a Boyer system, you could use a Wassell ignition for a Triumph, made by VAPE in CZ. They are a very robust and simple device, also cheaper than Boyer. The only drawback is, you would have to make an adapter plate to mount it in the points housing.

I am using a coil with the recommended Ohm rating. Same coil used by several other members.

Does anyone know how long you can run constant current through the Andrews coil? What I am thinking of doing tomorrow is pulling the coil off and hooking it to a battery, getting it hot and then checking resistance. I want to get it hot not well done.

What you ( and I ) both need is a remote fuel tank so we can run our bikes without the gas tank. I’m really gonna have to think about that.
That’s a good idea you’re pursuing.

I've thought of that. One of these days I'll make something. I think my mom said she has an extra roundtuit I can have.

Aux. fuel tank...off a Honda lawnmower I got off Amazon along with the on/off petcock. I think I paid less than $25. I have to bring the wooden sides in sometime so if fits the cam cover.

Very cool. Almost too easy.:)
Great idea.
