Boyer and Pamco Ignition

Peanut
Pete got on here and told everyone that XSCHARGE is not his and Mikes is not selling REAL PAMCO from Pete.
I felt bad for the guy because he is one of the top people who really cared about XS650 and some other older bikes that needed electronic ignitions.
He was wrongfully knocked off and whoever did it was wrong to make a copy of his stuff and put it out there. Now the problem is going to be MIXED parts on the internet for sale. So if you want a PAMCO buy from Pete's site ONLY!!!

I wondered what Petes take is on all this .You so rarely see him on the site these days. Its almost like he has given up on the Pamco . If he doesn't start doing something about the appallingly poor supply times , messaging and customer support soon, then he is going to lose any remaining loyalty he has from xs650.com members .

If he can't manage to run the business himself due to other committments or problems then he should either employ someone else to do it or make an announcement about what the situation is . Not just leave people for 3+ weeks on end with no reply to emails , Thats just not acceptable sorry but its true

I think this was a punch in the face for him. I really don’t think he seen this coming and found out the hard way with people complaining about what they bought and it wasn’t his product

Knockoffs now are all around. I got knocked off on my wire harness kits 6 months ago but I do it for fun not to put food on my table. Plus the best was they bought 5 harness kits from me before they knocked me off so I made money haha

When i started trying to diag my PAMCO i ordered a coil and new blue e advance box directly from Pete. He has good diag procedures for these parts pre written (i found them after the fact). I have no complaints about shipping time or contact when i bought the parts. Both came within a week and i received a “shipped” email. He doesn’t have an auto email with tracking like many places but honestly buying from him was fine on my end. My only complaint was lack of response when i still had an issue. There is no diag procedure for the Hall effect sensor (IGBT) sensor that i could find anywhere. Mikesxs responded to my email but did not have a diag procedure either. The main thing i liked about the Boyer is you can buy each individual part separately should one portion fail. I could not find a way to buy just the PAMCO Hall effect sensor. This may be because Pete has a newer version out now.... hard to tell when he doesn’t respond to the question.

People always take the lazy way out on this stuff. My brother builds custom drag race four wheeler frames for a living. Sold one to a guy and all of a sudden exact knock offs with all of his one off designs started popping up. Enough different to claim it’s not a copy but anyone can see it is. It’s all but impossible to copy write this stuff. Good news is if you build and maintain a good reputation your own customers will point out the flaws in the knock off. Better news is the knock off guys usually don’t last long.

Like you no complaints about buying the unit. Just after you get it and if you have a problem he doesn't seem to care.

thats a bumma........... those looms take a lot of work and attention to detail so there can't be much profit in them anyway .?

I do feel a tad sorry for Pete over this pamco issue . The initial R&D must have cost a fair bit of time and personal investment as must the manufacturing . I suspect that the pamco sales exceeded Petes initial expectation and he has never really caught up with the technical support and customer servicing side of things .
A popular product like this really does need prompt attention from the initial sales enquiry right through to the troubleshooting side of things and It looks to me like Pete never managed to keep on top of all this .

To be fair it must be exasperating to have so many units fail ,knowing that there was probably nothing wrong with the product just us cack-handed idiots making a mess of the installation in most cases .

However that said the installation instructions from Boyer are appallingly bad and desperately need updating yet you rarely see any online issues with their units They appear to be bomb proof, which is why I always recommend them

I hope so. I was going to put my points back in but really like how it ran with electronic ignition. I just ordered a Boyer. Should be here by Friday.

I just got a Pamco from Pete yesterday. I ordered it 4/30. Got an e-mail saying he shipped 5/1, got 5/4.
I talked with Pete before I bought it to confirm a few things first. Used his E-mail listed on his ignition site. Responce was within minutes.
I got the New Ignition with the E-Advancer on the sensor plate, not blue box. It set here in front of me now. I just need to get out and install it. Been a bit cool here with the almost constant rain.
Being a one man show I imagine it's not easy to keep up with everything.

I had no problem getting mine. I'm having a problem with mine. If you read my thread you'll see I've tried contacting him several times and several different ways. Absolutely no help from Pete. It appears he has the time to ship units out but not the time to support units he has sold.

I don't really have a horse in this race, but I did give GLJ a few suggestions while he was troubleshooting his iggy problem. So I've been watching with interest to see how it shook out after he contacted Pete. GLJ shared with me a copy of the email he sent to Pete. He (respectfully) asked Pete in an email to have a look at his troubleshooting and included a link to the thread. Pete responded by asking GLJ for a link to his thread. So, that's kinda curious. In the 3+ wks GLJ has been waiting for some help, Pete has been on the forums here multiple times every day. So although I'm sure Pete is a busy man, he had plenty of time every day to catch up on things like "Mailmans XS2 restoration" thread. If he has time for that, he certainly has time to help GLJ out.... but never bothered. He's also well aware of this discussion.....

I'll probably be going with the Boyer on my next bike.

im sure PamcoPete has plenty of people who love his products and i have seen many threads on here where he has helped people out. I don’t know what criteria he uses in choosing whom or what he responds to but as a small business owner myself i like supporting the “small guy”. I am obviously disappointed in my results with him but as the wise man once said “it is what it is” .

I honestly don’t think you will have an issue getting the unit. Lord willing it will work properly and you will be happily riding for years to come. Just pray you don’t have any issues lol.
