Going for the second one, messed the first one up, going to smood the sharp engine edges ,my question is;is it possible to warm the seal up (warm water) so it will come in more easy?

greetzz R.

Grease will help out. Make sure the case has no sharp edges at all cause you will be doing it again. Ask me how I know  lol

Hot will make it softer but also bigger?
flat back of a deep socket to tap it in, round/bevel the case edge, a bit of lube, don't worry if you shear off the raised ring on the way in. The seal won't work it's way out.

The raised ring is important for a good seal i thougt! it came of the first time> no seal but oil leak!

Had the same issues with the front sprocket seal once, messed op 2 seals, split the case en did it right!
helle of a job for justa seal!

Nah you have to drive the seal in, no oil's getting through that. I've prolly done 15 never leak. remove polish the shaft it's often rough at the seal. Check that your sprocket nut is tight. leave cover off run it, see where oil is coming from.
Hint; you need to keep a finger on the push rod running with the cover off, it will fall out and puke oil LOL.

I put the first one in on mine with a socket as driver. I had smoothed the sharp edge first but made a mess of it. The second try I just pushed it in slowly with my thumb . It is seated perfectly. BTW, at least one instance when M's xs advice was true, ie. buy two of them. and I did. Also used a small dose of dielectric grease for lube.

Re. doing it right, things go much better with a dab of seal grease on a frozen seal. You want the seal to be stiff so it expands as little as possible while it's being driven. If you want to warm something, warm the case with a heat gun.
Mmm, interesing point , shrink he MF, Fridge?

When I put mine in I used black RTV. Worked as a lube and sealant. Slid right in. Wiped off excess. No leak.

Once I get the edge of the seal hole deburred. I take a Phillip's head screwdriver #3 is just a bit smaller than the rod. Get a fender washer that just slips on the screwdriver and has a larger Outside diameter than the seal. A bit of grease on the screwdriver to help things slide. Slide on the washer, then the seal.
I coat the outside edge of the seal with Three Bond, the same stuff I seal the case halve with.
Slide the tip of the screwdriver into the hole where the rod goes in the shaft. This helps guide the seal straight in. The waher acts as a stop so you can't push the seal too far.
Clean off any excess sealant from around the seal.

This should be in the tech section. Very well thought of. Next time will be done this way. Thanks Leo for posting!

I found that using deburring tool made chamfering the hole a cinch.

The tool was purchased at Home Depot (similar to below) for cheap. Managed to put the seal in on the first attempt.

I used a Dremel to put in a 1mm relief, then a Craytex bitt to smooth/polish the case. Tapped the seal in using a socket and ball pein hammer. Worked well. This after 3 failed attempts (one by PO, two by me!).

Notice there's a proper depth where the ridge around the edge of the seal drops into the groove in the case. Measure that to see how far the seal should go in.
