@Jim Thanks. 80 frame, 79 engine. Frame-up (powder coated frame, fork lowers, swing arm, etc.). Tried to go budget so nothing too pricey besides the VM34's and custom seat from Counter Balance Cycles (Wes is a good dude). 18 front and rear. Custom battery box, front & rear fenders. Mostly inexpensive LED's and simplified wiring. I tried without the PAMCO and PMA.. but quickly realized that was a headache (after replacing brushes, etc). Lithium battery seems to do well. Starter button "hidden" just beneath the seat on the left side. Ignition low on the right.

Nice bike SAFU. I love the wheels and seat. Your holes in your drilled rotor look really big though. The rule of thumb i've always heard is for the holes not to be any bigger than the width of the rotor, and you've got some pretty thin spots between the holes. How well is it functioning for you?

Thanks for the concern, the rotor was off of a SR500 parts bike, didn't know about the holes and the rotor width. So far seems fine, feels the same as it did with a solid rotor but will definitely keep an eye out on the brake rotor for hairline cracks.

Tell us more about those pentagram wheels SAFU. They are a pretty rare find from what I know of them. I saw your build thread but you didn’t really make any mention of them that I saw.

Keep an eye out for them on ebay. They are both 19" front rims. The star rear wheel which I believe is a 18" is a lot more rare. I bought and installed Omar's Fiberglass 19" front wheel to rear kit to mount the front to the rear.

My brother had one exactly like that one. That's a good looking resto.
I've resisted buying ones that nice as it would be a shame to dismantle one looking that good to make a tracker out of.
I only buy wrecks, or ones that have been stripped already for that reason.

Factory color for that year?
A repaint of one of two 77 factory colors, Maxi Maroon, the other Bountiful Blue. Paint job is about 6 years old? The decals are cleared in.
sun back lit the bike so I had to lighten the shadows. Allison also commented it looked more red than usual, but reds fade pretty badly over time too.
A couple years ago.

I finally finished this '77 resto-mod after more than a year. Took it out for a 'shake-down' and it ran very nice. Headlight and inst. lights don't work as doesn't the left turn signal. All others work. I didn't realize how tall these are. It reminds me of the Yamaha XSR900's seat height. It also has a leak around the front oil tube. Oh, well... easily fixed.
