ArcticXS asked about the weight of some parts... and I just happened to have those parts at arms reach.... so I weighed 'em. That got me to thinking, more than once I've seen a question here about what something weighs. Wouldn't it be nice if we had a list we could just look through to find the answer? Well, let's start one. If you've ever weighed something related to the XS, put it up here. Periodically I'll update this list.
 
Alternator Rotor (TCI type): 3lb. 1oz.

Alternator Stator (TCI type): 3lb.

Battery Box (incl. safety relay, RLU and starter solenoid): 4lb. 12oz.

Brakes:

Rotors, Early; 6 lb 6 oz
Rotors, late; 6 lb 10 oz
XS1100, slotted; 6 lb 3 oz
Later model Yamaha sport bike WITH space; 3 lb 15 oz


Engine Parts:
Oil Delivery pipe; 8 oz

Left side engine case cover, complete; 3 lbs
Camshaft; 2 lbs, 15oz
Tappet cover; 2.8 oz
Cam Chain Tensioner 3.9 oz
Sump filter screen 4.4 oz
Carb manifold 80-83, 2.8 oz
Piston 10.5 oz
Piston pin 3 oz

Headlight bucket, complete, w/rim and sealed beam 2 lbs, 15 oz

excellent idea Jim . its the cheapest route to performance gains there is for those of us that like to tear around like hooligans
it might be surprising to many of us jus how much weight can be shed .

I did this exercise with my campervan (RV ) and just removing the rear bumper (over rider) and some unnecessary internal woodwork I shed over 120 lbs !
Pity I couldn't lose that much off my belly !... ahem....
 
I'm surprised that nobody has listed the indicator or signal lamps yet. They weigh a ton! I ditched mine pronto for a set of lightweight smaller aluminium jobbies. ditto the full set of pegs are very heavy too . there must be lighter alternatives

Turn signal : 9.5 oz , including the lens, w/out bulb, w/out the securing nuts, threaded mounting shaft or washers

34 T steel rear sprocket, original, 1 lb 14.7 oz
