Dreaming Creek, named by Daniel Boone. He laid down to sleep here and had a dream about being captured by Indians. Next day he was captured by Indians... After being marched a few hundred miles, managed to escape and return. Story related by his son Nathan. If I can find the picture of Lulbegrud Creek, also named by Boone, from Gulliver's Travels. Hey, the crew was literate!

Camping on deserted Matagorda Bay, in the footsteps of La Salle. Actually went there because of La Salle to soak up some La Salle vibe.
Awesome driftwood expedient table.
Very interesting read, journal of La Salle's last voyage, if you can get started. nj1639 will like it if he sees this. I believe there exists and I believe I have read a journal of the first voyage, by the same author.

Thanks for straightening me out:lmao:. I'm no mailman, so just a couple O lame pics and a basic trip script.
Left Weds 7 AM, returned Sunday at 3 PM, 1500 miles around Lake Superior, a gorgeous trip if you like rugged coastlines, lots of streams and waterfalls, pristine northern forests and friendly Canadians.
Had good weather, only a few hours of riding in off and on rain and a couple showers at night while we were snug in our tents. Phil is a great cook, He did all the cooking and REALLY knows how to pack a bike.

Then up to Lake Superior Provincial Park where we got a campsite at Agawa Bay, with a lake view.

This was a route choice moment, go back and do the south shore of the Lake in the UP and Wisconsin, or head up around the northern shore. Phil made me pick ( a story there) Phil's a preplanner, gggGary more follow his nose. Went north, which turned out to be the right path. (weather). This trip would be a great two week trip but we were out for less than a week, so averaged 200-300 miles a day. With an early start, breakfast, coffee, packed and rolling before 8AM, we were at our evening campground by no later than 2PM which got us sites without reservations, ( couple times just got a site before the campground filled) and plenty of time to explore the local area, sunsets were AFTER 9 PM....was still reading in my tent without a light at 10 one night.
Stopped at Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park just north of Thunder Bay.

then 350 miles to home.
A bit more about a trip like this here. https://lakesuperiorcircletour.com/
A few more notes.
This is RURAL; expect 50 to 80 miles between (not out of business) gas stations.
You need a passport or pass card to enter and return from Canada.
You are "up Nort" expect cool weather.
Bring bug spray, there's an assortment of biting pests, hiking woods trails, camping, without spray could be miserable.
Don't expect lots of services etc. to be 5 minutes away.
Pics don't do this area justice, you HAVE to go see it in person to appreciate.

Looks like I sold the Venture as soon as I got home, so will be looking at a different touring option.
Venture is comfortable as an old pair of shoes, put 13,000 miles on it on several cross country trips but not so fond of such a heavy bike any more.

I been there, back in '70. Also camped alongside a log.

In fact, I think I reckanize that log...
I think I reckanize you saying that before, meaning I must have posted it before :)
Years later I used google satellite view to look at the beach and the log was still there.

Looks like fun, Gary. Nice quiet sleeping if you're lucky.

Beautiful trip Gary..Thanks for sharing...I havent slept on the ground or in a tent in 40 yrs...
Took a similar trip years ago from Duluth MN around Lake Superior /Thunder Bay with a side trip to Mackinaw island and down to Ludington MI and crossed Lake Michigan on the S.S. Badger (ferry boat) to Manitowac WI and then on home
And you are right the Canadians are friendly not so much US Customs
Glad you had a safe trip
