Returning bike to stock ignition.

Yes, the two red/whites coming out of the harness hook to the two coil brown wires. It doesn't matter which one goes to which, they both split off the same red/white wire inside the harness (which is coming from the kill switch). That ground wire is, I guess, extra grounding for both the condenser pack and motor. The small end fits on the forward condenser pack mounting screw .....

The large end gets trapped between the top motor mount and engine at the front right .....

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Read through this link and the posts by Goran Persson and look at the pics in his link........... The warping is due to the plate standoffs not sitting square in the XS650 points housing. This is fixed by making a stepped standoff for the plate.............Has nothing to do with heat, as the first poster thinks, and heat has been used recently by one as a reason for the Boyer plate to warp in stead of the step in the points housing

http://xs650temp.proboards.com/thread/13335/boyer-ignition-problem

Well done ! looks like you have finally discovered the true source of this problem .well perhaps we should say Goran did.;)
The pcbs were not 'warped' as has been claimed ... they had been physically distorted by being fixed onto unevenly supported standoffs. Frankly I am surprised that the step wasn't noticed during installation :umm:

If the standoffs are not rebated as Goran did then tightening up the pcb fixing screws would distort the pcb . Over time the pcb board would bend more and more finally bringing the boards soldered joints into contact with the rotor .

What surprises me is that I don't believe that my 78 does has this step ? I will remove my cover tomorrow and check. perhaps the housing had already been modified by the previous owner or perhaps I didn't notice the step when refitting the boyer
I am not familiar with other model years but perhaps there are differences in the housings?

Clearly this is/was an extremely rare problem as there only appears to be 2x references to it online out of all the thousands of Boyers that are sold Worldwide every year . My feeling is that if every XS650 owner fitting a Boyer ignition system had to create a step in the standoffs in order to fit the system then I think it would be a widely known issue.

I made reference to this problem a while ago...............got flamed and abused because you wouldn't listen to an alternative problem other than heat causing the plate warping.............In fact you spat the dummy and and accused several of us of name calling and personalty attacking you and trying to get you banned........This is the behavior of a troll.................

Don't make out i i have finally solved this issue..........stop being a dickhead..............

Yea being a bit of a dick posting this info ............but.............well............Peanut........lol

Oh yea.and thanks for re-posting the eact same information i posted relating to the problem and solution on how to stop the plate from warpling.........left a couple of spelling mistakes for you to to be able to have a go at my literacy inteligenze..........

Uh oh, fiftynineab, meet peanut and 650skull , it’s a “mean love” relationship that pops up over Boyer ignition stuff. C’mon you guys !
Anyway, all the orange/gray and brown to red&white coil connecting had me at a loss till I got back home and refreshed . That is confusing. Thanks 5twins again !

Hard to believe Yamaha Corp would confuse us back then with such crazy wire color connecting ..

skull .........seriously chum you need to seek some professional medical help for your problem . I and I expect many other members are completely mystified by your violent and offensive outbursts .

Everyone else on here including me are just interested in learning about our bikes and enjoy chewing the fat over various issues .

Have a re read of my post ...............and then look at your response ................and have a think about whether your response is appropriate or constructive or friendly. :)

Ok
this is a message to all members
In the interests of trying to end this continuous vendetta that skull seems to have once and for all

I would like everyone, including skull ,to please to read the post #44 above that I made in response to skulls post and tell me if I have said anything that could in any way be construed as rude or inflamatory or challenging or dismissive or any other negative comment that I made that could be the source for skulls aggressive and offensive response .......

If I have then I will apologise .

I haven't felt comfortable discussing any technical issue on this forum for several years now because of the actions of just 2 of the members who go out of their way to make my visits here as unpleasant as they possibly can. Just look at all the work skull has put into all the links in his post in order to have a pop at me. What a waste of time and effort . Life is too short.

update! It runs! And it runs so good! Thankks to all for your help and patience. I still have some tuning to do points Gap Etc but it runs. I just through the points play in there and kept the Gap that was on them from when I took it apart to install my pamco. I must have had a pretty good tune on there because it fired right up. I just cannot thank you all enough.

Also I'd like to apologize for mentioning anything about the Boyer electronic ignition. I've never used it don't know anything about it. I hear it's great I hastily read a couple of posts about it and did not finish reading all the way through did not do my homework before commenting on it. I did not mean to spark any controversy about the issue at all. I will say that my points seemed to work pretty good.

You’re Hired ! Awesome fast work there.
Next you can look for any unwanted timing mark variation between the cylinders and try to
“split the difference” on the seen error with your timing light if any.
Again , nice thread to watch thanks,

absolutely nothing to apologize for fiftynineab its just a couple of us cranky old folk having a personality clash or something.;) just don't mention Boyer ok.....Arghhh ....there I mentioned it !

What up fellas,

Let me know if I should just start a new thread for this next question.

I need to either rebuild my master cylinder. Or replace it with an aftermarket one. The washer at the bottom of the reservoir is Rusty and that doesn't come in the rebuild kit.
Also
Should I purchase the rebuild kit from Mike's xs? Is there a higher quality rebuild kit that I should get?

I believe some specialists in the UK resleeve master cylinders to a smaller diameter, and supply a new piston and seals to fit the sleeve. If original appearance combined with better braking is desirable, that is a good way to do it. If originality is less important, get a more modern MC. I use a 13 mm Brembo MC with the rectangular reservoir on both my XS with a Brembo 4 pot, and on my RD350 with the stock dual 48 mm piston caliper. A huge improvement on both bikes!
