What have you done to your XS today?

There is an advantage having 2 single phase rectifiers.........if one of the diodes do crap out the wire can be changed to the spare diode, and back on your way........full brake down with the 3 phase

Installed my new all black Progressive 12 Series rear shocks and springs and gave the bike a good wash. Painting the tank and side covers is next.

Installed my AGM Battery last week, Tuesday I believe. I’ve put just over 200 miles on her since my new battery, clutch plates, and fresh oil. She’s running stronger than ever. That old battery must have just been done. I would think if my charging system was to blame, my new battery would be giving me problems by now. Still need to track down the cause of my flickering dash lights, and I’ve developed a rattling in the my right exhaust; I think the spacer must have fallen out from between the pipe and muffler and is just knocking around in the muffler. Will have more time to look into these issues after we close on our house, and I’ll have garage to work in. Tim’s old shocks should be showing up here in the next few days, so that will be a fun upgrade to look forward to. For now, all is good.

Hooked up like Dr. Frankenstein's monster, the '77 had gas and electricity. The starter spun without the all too often bilious cacophony but no start. Oops, kill switch on. Still nothing. Added a little huff of starter fluid to each side and got a couple sooty backfires.
Switched sides on the plug wires and instant relief! Motor started right up and ran smoothly without any bad noises. Very pleased. The 2 into 1 is no louder than stock.
Now that it looks like I have a motor that is in good shape, I can plan where the project goes now. Maybe it's worth getting the shortened seat pan upholstered so I can use the 750 tank.
Looks like I will be replacing the odd seal.

Don't think the last guy read the instruction sheet on that repair!

Pardon my ignorance, i found this confusing, I thought these were a wasted spark ignition with both plugs firing simultaneously, or is that only electronic ignitions? :umm:

It sure is colorful though! :laugh2:

I stripped the side covers with some aircraft stripper last night. That stuff is getting hard to come by. Good news was the local Advanced Auto Parts sold me a $20 quart of it for $2.....they're not supposed to carry it any longer. Running my finger around the inside of the gas tank there was a good amount of rusty grit. I filled the tank yesterday morning with white vinegar and turned it upside down to soak. when I got home I added a bunch of stainless nuts and bolts to the tank and shook the hell out of it. Rinsed and repeated a few times until the vinegar came out clear. I rinsed the tank with hot water and then a final rinse and shake with a gallon of distilled water. I tried using my compressor to dry out the inside but then had the bright idea to use the outlet on the big shop vac I have. I stuck the hose in the gas opening and let it run out of the petcock holes for 5 minutes. not a single sign of moisture. Gonna strip the tank tonight. Weather is nice here so trying to get this project done quickly!

Brought it home!

This is actually my second (I have a '75 basket case). This one runs... or rather, ran... until the battery died (charging issue, I'm sure) on his way to meet me so I could look at the thing. I met him at the gas station where he'd broken down, as he was installing the new battery (there was a parts place across the street). Unfortunately, he reversed the terminals and smoked some stuff. I'll have to look into that once I'm able to get out in the garage and get a good look at it.

That bike looks familiar...Congrats.
Love the Grand Wagoneer. I wish I had never given ours away :(
There was a green wagoneer for sale here in Iowa City years back that I was really tempted to buy. They really are awesome looking trucks. Old skool SUV. Also, congrats on the bike!

I bought it in Knoxville... Do you know who had it before?

The Wagoneer has an '08 Silverado LY5 backed by a 4L60E in it.

Got my new-to-me shocks installed this evening before boogie’n up the interstate to my soon to be new hometown. Ride is much improved. No more residual bouncing around after bumps, and maybe even more exciting, no more shock oil all over my swing arm and wheel. It will take awhile to get used to the new look, but I do like how the shock bodies blend in with the rest of the black frame. My neighbor pointed out that the gold accents the gold tank decals nicely.

That's lookin' right smart there young man. :D

Yeah TZ, your bike just keeps getting nicer and nicer, you have been steadily making improvements on it and it really shows. Well done!
