So I’m in the process of polishing a bunch of parts for my build and I’ve decided to polish the fuel cap I’m using (1999 R6).

To do a nice job I want to dismantle the mechanism, all is fine until the last step where I’m a little concerned if I don’t tread carefully I could damage something.

Can anybody offer advice as to how they would tackle the task of removing this pin?

Am I on the right page thinking... clamp unit in soft jaws on vice, use a penetrating oil and an appropriate sized drift, punch etc and tap from end that isn’t splayed???

If it helps the pin is hollow with one end being splayed open, you should just be able to make this out in the photos.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Cheers. Daniel.
