So went to a bike meet yesterday to meet up with some folks and see some really nice bikes and their proud owners. There was a professional photographer there taking pictures so I thought I would treat Bella to some studio photos since two week prior to that she had won best Yamaha in show at the same bike meet. I must say she was a real "Bella" of the ball. She made me proud.

Wow - you're making the rest of us (except Mailman and Jim) look pretty shabby....;)

I have to admit that I have fallen in love with this bike. I ride it more than my VStrom. Always puts a smile on my face and surprised me how much others also enjoy it. I think that it brings back many memories for people. Everyone I met had some story to tell me with their XS experience. Bit of a time machine. Amazing a 35 year old bike can do that to someone.

Now trying my hand at restoring a basket case 1980 Honda CB750. Hopping to restore it to the same level as the XS but going to be a long journey. Will need a lot more work but will be worth saving another bike from the junk heap or from being chopped up into a hipster’s coffee runner.

or from being chopped up into a hipster’s coffee runner.

AMEN!

Everytime I see a "chopper project" being advertised for sale, all I can think is: "Yup, another beautiful old motorcycle ruined by some stupid git who has more ambition than skill, money and taste".

You have finished off your Heritage Special nicely !
....but you seem to be missing the lower side covers, yes?

Yes. Didn’t come with them and de-tabbed the frame where they were. Actually prefer the look without them. Removed the lock chain box so unless you knew they were there you would never know.
