This is how I got the bike about idunno, 6-7 years ago? There was a bunch of new parts in boxes too. much of that has scattered to other builds and owners now. Yeah radian arm. IT's a 79 frame with 34mm forks:shrug::umm:.
The forks are off (for sale), new forks from (something else:wink2:) going on. A good example to trust NOTHING the PO did. When I removed the forks there was a tapered steering bearing in the top, and a tapered race in the lower neck, but NO lower steering bearing!

Got a bit of a problem. This is the neck going on Ywain.

Put the new bearing on, THEN found I need to get that old race as a shim 'tween the bearing and the bottom triple for correct length/spacing. I really would like to get the bearing back off. This neck had a tapered roller there, that was too large on the OD so it had to come off, but it was majorly not pretty before I "freed" it from the stem. The new bearing was a drive on fit. Any ideas?
Side note; this neck uses the nut, rubber washer, nut, lock collar up top like I recently mentioned elsewhere on the forum.

Any ideas?
I think you are screwed. Unless you can drive wedges under the race to get it high enough to get a good bearing puller on it. You may be better off to bite the bullet and break the cage, score the race and break it to get it off. No fun destroying good parts.:(

Curious... why do you need to shim the bearing up?

Cuz the XS neck is about 5/16" shorter than this stem. IE the bearings can't be tightened with the existing thread or top bearing ID shank length. I could chuck the stem in the lathe and turn the top race area further down the stem but for a couple reasons that's not my happiest solution.
Thnx 4 the comments!
