Electronic Ignition for xs650

Still as dubious now as when they first jumped on this forum. No one seems to be taking a chance with their gear, probably for the same reasons you stated. However they did manage to post a plug about their product and a link to their very odd website. That was probably there intent.

I don’t know much - but I’ll contribute that the email address given by the OP which has the domain name “QQ” is widely used in China (sort of like hotmail in the PRC), so it is almost certainly a Chinese outfit.

They’ve already stolen the designs for one good system (the PAMCO) - don’t know why they want to do another one.

I guess the good ole’ competitive market is alive and well - even among the IP thieves in China.

What could go wrong? Ordered one direct from their website. http://www.tytronic.com/tytronic/products/7797124.html Shipped for $110 This is $35 more than a "proven" MikesXS ignition.
Paid with paypal figure that's a bit less risky than using a credit card... Will report how this goes. . Note the while they list it as working for all years it is not a bolt on to 80 and up engines with TCI ignitions as it depends on the mechanical advance system.

Got a reply to my payment.

Well, that is certainly and a helpful and courteous response.

These folks are obviously very kind and quite sensitive to the needs and aspirations of their customers.

Please do keep us informed as events progress Gary.

"Hello, I am the seller of tytronic igniter. Can you tell me whether your motorcycle is XS400 or XS650?"
I replied and it was acknowledged...

OK - so pretty good overall. This could be quite good if it works.

Thank goodness for computer translators.

I am waiting on parts from Japan now going on 6 weeks. Good prices but don’t expect to get it fast. Only guy I get fast shipping from is CruzinImage
I’ll second that. Ordered a pair of pistons last Thursday, arrived yesterday, 1 week. Highly delighted.

You can also make your own using a older MSD box and a pickup from a distributor. After hours bikes uses this setup on most of there bikes. They are out of Florida. Because it’s dual fire the MSD box works great. Now Gary you got me wanting to make one. Why you put this in my head haha

So it is just a points eliminator plate and will still need mechanical advance to work. Nothing electronic there but only a trigger similar to the TCI one on the stator. Am I seeing this correctly?

Yes

........a trigger similar to the TCI one on the stator. Am I seeing this correctly?
There's gotta also be electronics to decode opening from closing events (timed dwell), that signals a transistor that performs the "points switch duty" and is able to handle the electrical load of the coil.
But no real info, maybe it's a self powered coil that needs no battery power???

I think so JP - but I’d guess that an electronic advance version is on the way so I think I would hold off a bit.

I went on the web to look up Tytronics and it appears that a lot of Honda SOHC folks use his system as well. Overall, they seem happy and impressed with the fast shipping (6 days from order to receipt of the parts).

from a Honda 750 group.
"Another year later and and the inexpensive Tytronics unit is still working great. Lots of heat cycles and several thousand more miles driven last year. I think I will order another for my brother's SOHC at this point."

ahh I see I think you did oreder one GG..G.. Gary . Ive been thinking of getting one for a while but didn't understand the listing, do you know what the hek it means when it says 30% duty cycle, the only time im used to that reference is with welders, like it can run for 3 minutes strait in 10 minutes (30%) duty?? that what wierded me out about the Tytronics part, and another question if any one can decipher that listing, do you guys think its for points coils??? oh and G...G,,,..Gary did you have to pay shipping when you bought it off the site direct???
