What have you done to your XS today?

That’s interesting plug and play because the SR500 brake is on the left. The site states it’s a Right. XS650 applicable it seems though but is there a left available ? (SR500)

I didn't think that through before posting. But, you can mount the XS650 brake on either side, depending what caliper you have. I kept the right one off my wrecked Moto Guzzi.

So these are my only two swingarm pivot tubes. They were wire wheeled firstly than spun in a lathe and hand polished a bit. Surprisingly they are still straight, round, and have no visible runout rolling on a granite plate. Drilled for better grease flow. Bushings are dirty but probably fine. If not I’ll make new ones.
Going for the win here ! Maybe this evening.

Are you using the factory bushings or going bronze?

Judging the condition of the pivot tubes and pivot shafts, which are just not too high tech :lmao: I’ve decided to keep it simple and admit that they just need cleaned and greased occasionally. Something that these XS’s just don’t seem to have gotten much.
Nice work on your 77 Bob !

Well, two swingarms, four original bushings to knock out. I didn’t even think it would happen but I now have four fine original bushings to clean and use. Takes two knock rods, one 3/4” and the easy second bushing takes a 1” push rod

The bike has 110/90-18 rear tire now.
I want a little bigger, I know 120 will be a little wider compaired to 110.
to get a little bigger diameter would I go 120-95-18 Or a 120-100-18?
And would a 120-100-18 fit on this bike. with the current tire there is plent of room back there. I'm just a little unsure, I just want to a little bigger the rear looks a little to small on it now and its time to replace it
I want it to fill out the rear more like my Harley.

I don't think it's capable of looking like your Harley, but then again, maybe you have the necessary talent.

I believe the Special swingarm is the same as the standard. So, that means a 130/90-16 tire fits in there. 140/90-16 not so much. It depends upon the tire brand. 120/90-18 should fit without any issue.

My experience with my '83 Special has been that a 130/90-16 tire is the widest you can fit in it and if alignment isn't perfect it will rub on one side or the other. And yes, there are slight differences in brands.
