I'm back in Austin Texas after a decade in the Great NorthWet (Olympia WA). I saw an ad selling an xs650 project and it caused a return of my XS650 fever. After looking at modern bikes, searching for the "if I only had one motorcycle" replacement for my DR350 and FJ1200 with a critical eye to how I actually ride I decided to build a xs650 based street legal desert sled. basically a street tracker with a big tank and comfortable single seat, high pipes and skid plate. I've had 7 xs so far and it is time for number 8.

well i'm taking the DR to Big Bend today for its final ride when I get back ill sell it and start collecting what I need for my personal version of an all-around MOTORCYCLE. In my 60 years on two-wheels the XS650 yam has proven to be - for me - the heart of such a machine.

Anybody in South Texas with any of the components, please PM here.

if MRRIGGS is still around I'd love to get another of his stator mounts.

happy trails

Hey, Burns, welcome back!

At my age and health condition, I'd be reticent about getting into a build. Good on ya for wanting to do this. Be aware of Austin's expen$se factor.

Justa option, have you looked into the new Royal Enfield 650?

the RE looks good but wont scratch the xs itch for me. Plus FI is too modern for me.
