What have you done to your XS today?

A flux capacitor?

I can see a regulator. When the Zener Diodes breakdown the relay activates/deactivates to cut out the over-voltage. Sounds good but I did not think the relay response time was quick enough, but then it works for the old style regulators which do about 100 per second. Perhaps combining 3 relays could give us a reliable regulator so everyone can switch to PMAs.

Moose season is now definitely over, here at almost 70 degrees North, and the boat hauled out and sitting on the trailer, so finally I had some time to messwith my XS tonight.

Not much done tonight, I just removed the battery box. Which also involved removing the rear wheel and the forward rear fender section. When I had it removed, I couldn't resist weighing it. 2.60 kg or close to 5 lbs 12 oz including starter relay, regulator and safety relay. Pretty sure a new box from aluminum plate will weigh a lot less, maybe 1.5 kg or around 3 lbs, which always is a good thing in my book. I still would need to keep the starter relay and the Powerdynamo Reg/Rect weighs 100-200 g.

The plan is to make a new, much shallower and lighter battery box for a smaller LiPoFe battery, replace the stock alternator setup with a Powerdynamo PMA, and rewire the bike using a MotoGadget MO unit to simplify things.

All this because I want to play with long-ish velocity stacks between the K&N filters and my RS 34 flatslide carbs. Partly looking for improved torque/power, and partly in order to be able to use (slightly modified) side covers with this combination of carbs, intake rubbers and individual pod filters. Pics will follow as things progress in January, as I am soon leaving for a 5 week oil field stint somewhere in West Africa.

If you keep taking weight off that thing - it will float away on the breeze Arctic!

Hey - where ya going in West Africa? I spent a year in Warri and Port Harcourt Nigeria in the early 80's.
It was pretty rough back then - can't imagine what its like now....

Pete,
It looks like it will be Angola, which is just as bad as Nigeria. Or possibly Namibia, which is one of the better places down there. All depending on crew logistics etc.

After cleaning the carbs, the threads stripped off no idea how it happened, I didn’t even fully tight it, I had to improvise and close the bowl, no leaks. Tried to turn it on but nothing, Assuming the battery might be low since left it on the garage for like a month without firing it.

Hmmmm....Angola....yup, interesting, but not fun.

Today I installed the new 7075 Aluminum clutch rod I got from TwoManyXS1Bs, then removed the 2-2 exhausts and dug the old Mac 2-1 Header out of the shed that was on the bike when I bought it 15 years ago. While I'm not one for overly loud pipes I must admit that after having tried several different pipes over the years the Mac 2-1 header was the loudest, best performing and ugliest pipe I've ever run on this bike.
