I rode my xs650 bobber, the one in the tytronics install video , second ride now, I rode it to meet up with a member on this site near me, then rode it back so he could look thru my bins of parts, he was supper happy (I think) to find some chrome fenders and headlisht ears, building bobbers and choppers I forget people need or want all those parts that end up in my bins,....ANYWAYSSSSS point is "today" I rode it lol, that counts right?

Started messing with the front part of the bike.
For the gauges I might machine out a clear acrylic piece for the new faces to stick to. Instead of sticking them on the old ones, that way the they illuminate better. We'll see

Yesterday I took The SG out for an appt. Ran not it's best but I made it to my appt. Going home it went from bad to worse, but I made it home. Thinking she needs a carb cleaning, I yanked them out. First bowl was clean, Every thing was clean. Checked the diaphragm. Bingo! Tiny hole. Got some black High temp RTV. Rubbed some over and around the hole. Both sides. I finished up the cleaning and reassembly. Both carbs had a hole in the diaphragm. Installed them back in and started her up. So much better running.

Gathered some more chrome bling in the forest hideaway of billy icons, a magical riverside forest cabin. Cool !
That and assembled my gauges onto the fresh painted mount.
Front end stuff..

Gathering the best bits I can find is part of the XS bad habit lol.
Scored two very nice short stalk version turn signals today too. Going to attempt to use the rear fender mount holes as only turn signal mounts. The frame is "smoothed" I'll use nifty clamps over the rear loop for fender mounts. And either convert the new to me rear fender utilizing that license plate mount light as a tail light ? Or in the worst case, use that location for a trim, small tail light.

Nice! That Randy always has nice subtle little pops of bling! :)

I have packaged up those beautiful green '78E sidecovers and will be nipping across to the Land of the Free this afternoon to mail them back to Gordon-in-NC via Mailman's buddies.

Gordon: thank you SO much for the fuel tank and the loan of the sidecovers for the colour matching. What a kind and generous gentleman Gordon truly is.

I have had one rattle can mixed of the correct colour and hope to spray it over the Christmas holidays. Photos to follow!

Pete.

Took the outer casings off to get them ready for polishing, which probably won't happen for a while given all the Xmas stuff going on. Garage work is always a challenge - just about room to get to both sides of the bike.

Earlier, I rode the DRZ into Bath. Mental! The shed festival, or Xmas market as they prefer to call it, is in full swing and the world and his dog have turned up to go shopping. I got out as quickly as I could!

This was easier than I thought.
The only problem I ran into was on the tach the words (high beam and neutral) were in different places.
So I cut a half moon, instead of a full circle for those lights.
They turned out looking like new. Just need to get LED bulbs and paint everything and put it back together.

That looks great!

Very nice Jerry! I’m happy you this went so well for you. Well done!

Well nuts. The patched diaphragms didn't work this morning. Back to the stash and found 2 in better condition. Did all the work again to do the swap again. Got it started but was running on one cylinder. Pulled that plug and it was wet and carboned up. Blew it out, shot it with carb cleaner and dried it out. Put it in the working cylinder and that on in the cold side. The SG started right up. Adjusted the carbs. The cold cylinder warmed up. Sounded good. I've left it alone to cool down for a couple hours now. I'll go out in a while to try to start her up and see how easy or hard she starts up. I checked how much blowby was coming out the breather. Almost none. I have a power brake valve on each breather hose. WAAAY less than before! Maybe if the stars are in line and I hold my tongue right and it doesn't rain, I'll take her out for a ride with no major problems.
