79 Special II RestoCustom "Doomy"

Headlight Ear bending off the bike is going well like this. Having the ears side by side in the vice is helping with both alignment and symmetry. The required arm push to bend and rotate is just about right. Unfortunately since the ears are not on the bike, I'm guessing at the desired angle and will have to take them home for a trial fitment.
Wish me good luck
:D

The 79 Cafe project continues to take me on an undetermined adventure.
Yesterday the tall Shinko rear tire was spoken for by another member ;)
So, I got a hold of two new tire spoons and wow are they nice, new tube, and pryed on the on hand Dunlop 404 rear onto my other wheel. Done procrastinating-
two rubber gloves, two tire spoons, soapy water, one bicycle pump, pressure gauge, and a valve stem tool.
Old School

Saturdays Highway parts hunt is... Success
Traded off that big Shinko shod 16" rear wheel even though it was so tempting to want to ride on. The best news today is that the 79 Cafe project has a new body to play with. 81 Special Silver/Grey color will work very well with the aluminum, tumbled parts, and silver painted items.
Didn't see it coming. I'm not set up to paint anything so this is an easy nice answer for the body. The side panels being plastic will be easy to custom shape and create mounts.

Hallelujah! Snook in some motorcycle time today. Skipped a few work hours to do it too. Busy time of year but an XS project must fit in if even a little bit
;)
These Triumph shocks are finally fit tested and check out just fine. I bounced them and tightened the spring load one click up for a base. The biggest concern I've had was the swingarm angle and the chain angle at the countershaft sprocket. It's close to maxxed out. The chain guide may take a slight beating but there is no turning back, I like it too much. Took a pic of the clearance under the rather large Dunlop 404 and the pavement with the bike on center stand. Now this project is a roller to keep building on ! I have to get back to the front end forks to finally fit the new chrome headlight ears and new to me chrome headlight bucket too.
Other than just lack of time thru the holidays, this is still looking very promising and FUN !
I'll get back to it soon
-RT

Nice. I have been running those same shocks for the last couple of years. Looking to upgrade to a reservoir shock with a little more adjustability.

Slightly longer than stock rear shocks are a great mod. Besides improved stance and ride, deploying the centerstand is so much easier. This is particularly true for the Special model. In stock form, it's a real bear to get up on the stand because of the steeper shock angle and the 16" rear wheel. Many claim the final diameter of tire shod 16" and 18" wheels are near the same but there really is a difference. The 16" is smaller.
