Good for you! Gotta grab the good days when you can!

The sky was clear and the temps were in the upper 60's. The roads weren't just calling, they were yelling! The "SG" was running sweetly too. Off to Arrivoca! Ajo Rd(Hiway 86) to AZ 286. As one cruises down that road, you can see some of the telescopes on Kitt Peak. Pastures for cattle. Take that to the "Arivoca" sign. It's a crappy over patched up road with "Open Range" signs. You never know when bull or Bessie is waiting around the corner. Or hamburger and steaks on the hoof as I like to call them. It inclines up and down and around and round. Oh yeah. I forget to mention the 2 Boarder Patrol checkpoints you have to go through. One on each highway. I make it to Arivoca and the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge parking lot. Been there many times and if you have time to check it out, do so. I didn't, but stopped for a bit. Continued on to I-19N back to Tucson. I don't know how many miles it is but it's not a quick ride.
Now some pics. .Oh yeah the Longhorn Grill. Just a cool building.

Don't hate me cuz I'm out riding and your housebound due to snow and ice. Ride with me through the pics. It was mid 60's temps and clear skies. Had lunch with the wife and was headed home and decided to take the long way home. Made my way to Mission road. So called because of the San Javier Mission AKA White Dove of the Desert. Built in the 1500's by the Spanish. One of Father Kino's Missions. It's just a nice road to ride. The SG was purchased near by back in '09. It continues on passing Duval mines and it's tailing hills. Over I-19 it's called Sahuarita Road. Sahuarita has orchards of Pecans. On to Corona de Tucson. A VFW has a F-4E painted up as a Thunderbird team #4. It's well maintained for a display bird. Headed north on Pantano Rd towards home. I don't know how many miles the trip was, but it was worth it.

Looks like you had a nice day for a ride !!
here in MN not so nice but next week off to the FL Keys for a week
I'll rent a bicycle there or maybe a scooter if I'm feeling frisky LoL

I'm going on a ride. Who's want's to come along? Kickstands up! Lets go! First lets go by part of the Boneyard. I've lived in Tucson for over 30 years and I've never been past Valencia Rd on Kolb Rd. So down the road we go. Past the new Amazon center, and a recent housing neighborhood. Then we come upon "Sycamore Acres" or something like that. Ultimate Yuppieville. Everything manicured. Don't get me wrong. I like a nice neighborhood, but this was too much. It was the end of the road anyway. Time to go. Back up where we just came from to Valencia. Made a right and went through Rita Ranch to Houghton Rd. Had lunch at the Carl's Jr. Back on Houghton Rd and over 2 bridges (one for the railroad and the other over I-10) to Sahuarita Rd and make a Lt. It turns into AZ-82E. We take it to AZ-83S. It's a nice motorcycle road. 55mph and curvy and hilly in places. We pass Charron Vineyards. We would reach Sonoita but we don't have time today. We stop at the reststop/overview.

First time I’ve been out in a couple of weeks. I took a little , post starter repair, test ride. This was such a pretty road I had to stop and snap a couple photos. The Ash trees that line the roads are all budded out, spring comes early in the desert Southwest.

Looking forward to better weather here in NH. Wife took a pic of Farm Boy (new name for the '78. Nicknamed him after 5twins helped me sort out the 180' timing issue) and me before we ventured out.View attachment 159374
Good for you, Steve, for getting out into the Brrrrrrrrr and riding your XS !

And further kudos for daring to break from the antiquated ( IMHO ) tradition of naming our bikes in the feminine.

Likewise, I named my '80 "Jimi", here pictured atop a mountain in the Catskills (NY).

Went riding today. First stop was Ft Huachuca near Sierra Vista. Saw some new areas. Didn't take any pics. Decided to go to Tombstone. "The town too tough to die" is their motto. The O.K. corral shoot out did happen. It's more than a movie or pulp story. It happened and is reenacted every day on Allen St. Boot hill of St 90. I did take some pics.

If you haven't, I recommend a wander through Cochise stronghold and the Dragoons, but mostly gravel roads.
Chiricahua NM is awesome. Ft Bowie worth a stop too. Reading some Apache history really improves the experience for these "dust in the wind" places. Get your boots on the trails too.
Less than a month and we're off to Arizona for a few weeks, van and e-bikes. Exact trip weather dependant.

Sunday morning, depart 9:30 am , 57 degrees and sunny, headed for the Vulture Mountains and open desert.

Throwing the windshield on was a last minute decision.

It’s the solitude that appeals to me. Out here you will see the occasional car, but not too often, I passed more cows than cars, it’s not the fastest way to get from point A to point B, this road just meanders.....perfectly. Mild temps and recent rains have greened up the desert, in a couple of months it’ll be the color of dry toast.

At the edge of the desert, I came across this place, a solar electric farm owned by the utilities company. We have many of these in Arizona, this is a tiny one. Some are absolutely gigantic. The satellite photo shows me as the blue dot.

Beyond the deserts edge I enter farm land, mile after mile of it. Here they are growing alfalfa and hay for the nearby dairy farms. Irrigation is the name of the game for growing anything in the desert. I also passed fields where workers were harvesting onions, you can smell that operation before you can see it.

And back in the barn. 130 miles clocked today. Today was a good day.....windshield was a good choice by the way.
