They need cleaning and lubing, probably will leave to someone else....I'm still only on page 10 of this resto...but about to try and crank engine pending new points, plugs finish cleaning carbs, petcocks, valve lash and timing. Then it gets more 'OK'

Hate to be that guy but those filters are on there bass ackwards. Coney side goes toward source. should be a flow arrow on there. the large volume is for junk storage. If you got junk in your tank, those will fill up pretty quick and stop flowing if you run'em like that.

This has been working on me ever since we had this conversation. So today, I thought what the hell? I’m already doing a bunch of other work, I might as well jump into this too. So I installed new filters in a reversed flow position, and while I was at it, I swapped in new fuel line ( I had to really, turning those new filters around required more line). I also replaced the vent line tubing. Check out the old filters, next to a new one, discolored and warped from engine heat.

While I’ve got my rear wheel off for a tire repair, I’m taking the opportunity to clean and inspect parts that are hard to reach. I pulled my mufflers off and ordered a new muffler joint gasket for one side that was worn out and leaking.
I also pulled my chain off and have it soaking in kerosene, I’ll give it a good cleaning and lube it after install.

I like the filter position!!! ( While I’ve got my rear wheel off for a tire repair...) Drill bit?
No really, a hot patch in it and new tube and wear the rubber off of it.

It’s Tygon 3/16” ID, I got it on EBay. 2M put me on to it, it is very stretchy and flexible, it doesn’t require a hose clamp. The 3/16” is a little smaller than the petcocks and the filters, it stretches over , nice and tight. The vendor I got it from is no longer there. I paid $1.75 per ft with free shipping. This is the same product, different vendor.

I mounted mine a little differently. They are on the outside where I can see them.
Also if needed I can remove the filter and short piece so they can be removed if they should plug up while riding.
Don't ask me how I know.

Well that just makes too much sense! I’d much rathe place them in a spot that requires you remove the air boxes and pull the carburetors to change! :laugh2:

While I'm thinking about it...I just purchased 3 cans of this Deoxit D5 5 oz. spray for $10 ea. Usual price on Amazon or 1 mi. from me @Guitar Center (they don't have it and can't find it anywhere < 50 mi.drive) is +-$16.00. Was pulling off old coils, condenser (who put that thing where it is), wire connectors to prep for a start up w/ fresh clean lube n filters. This stuff works electronic connection miracles. I intend to use it on all the wiring connectors (look pretty clean) and to flush, clean that left side (SX2) thumb switch and the like. I also have some "Super Lube" (harbor freight) clear dielectric grease that could be dabbed on after on moving contacts, however I found the Dioxit D5 does have light lube. Found it here, now, today on sale: https://www.parts-express.com/caig-deoxit-d5s-6-spray-5-oz-with-perfect-straw--341-200
Not familiar with it? Google it. Has kept my McIntosh stereo equipment going since 1980. It saved the 20 yr old mass AF sensor's sliding contacts on me car...just squirting the stuff in the end of the butterfly shaft where oil had entered! Thought I'd pass this savings along.
***No, I'm not going to bring the starter motor, clutch, charging circuit into play. Just turn it over a few kicks then try and light up the plugs/ engine with the cleaned out carbs, some inline filters and non ethanol gasoline.

I miss the McIntosh amp checkup day they used to do. I regret not buying McIntosh gear back in 70's. I'm happy that I still have my Marranz receiver.
