Man! That’s so pretty they should charge admission! Do you ever see Moose up where you live?

Not often, but we do see them. Saw one in my driveway once. I don't know who was more surprised, me or Bullwinkle. Also saw a pair cross the road right in front of us about 1/4 mile from the house. I do believe Bullwinkle had romantic intentions toward Belle-winkle...

Cheating here, these were taken on a walk this morning, but thought some of you might enjoy some pictures of the little village we live in. The first one is the old cannery that's been here in one form or another since 1920. No longer canning sardines, they're processing and freezing lobster now. Not sure what their market is.

And a ground-level view of the New England Connected my F-i-L used to live in.

Thats very picturesque, and exactly how I would envision Maine. I didn’t realize you live near the ocean, I always had this image in my mind that you lived deep in the woods somewhere off the beaten path. That would be nice to be able to walk to the coast and walk along the ocean. How many months a year , would you say, do you have nice weather for enjoying the outdoors?

Yeah DE you've been holding out on us!

A couple of weeks ago I posted pics of the Chief Blackhawk statue. This is the view Jim would remember. It's taken from the other side of the river on the road Jim would have been on.

For you desert dwellers.

Salt water about 500 yards from my kitchen window.

How much of the year you can walk depends to some extent on how rugged you are. Jan/Feb and the first half or so of March can be pretty nasty. The moderating influence of the Atlantic limits our snowfall, but cold and wind are plentiful at times. Snow for Christmas is NOT a given right here on the coast.

The rest of the year, we walk pretty much every day unless it's raining or fogged in to the point that visibility is an issue. No sidewalks, so we walk on the shoulder facing traffic. Not a great idea when you can't see your hand in front of your face.

I'd rather Winters in Maine than Summers in Arizona,

That seems to be the general consensus of most people that live in the NorthEast. :laugh2: You know , I grew up here, and never knew anything but the desert, and it has its own kind of beauty to be sure. But , boy.....I see Gary’s photos of green as far as the eye can see and your photos of beautiful Maine seaside living and Randy’s photos of the Cool and forested Pacific NorthWest. It really makes you realize just how beautiful some of the places you guys live are.

Spent a winter covering an outstation in Portsmouth NH. Taking care of jets out on the ramp in winter is a pain no matter where you are. Up that way was just shy of unbearable.
You did that operating charters? I went there too. Bangor in winter is the highest misery index I ever experienced. I was in Oman on a summer day when it was one twenty something hot and eighty something percent humidity. Both are very hard to function in. But since I remember an exact day in Bangor when it was -27F the wind was at 6 knots and somehow damp and I’m working in a leather bomber jacket and a fedora. Based upon that memory I have to say cold is more difficult for me to tolerate. I’ve worked in colder weather, but Bangor has extra special cold. It can also get crazy hot in the summer.

Right now, here in Mississippi it’s too hot and muggy to ride, not to mention the dangerous lightning cranking up.

A little bare base in Norway where you could throw a stone across the Arctic Circle. Did an engine change on an F-111.... on the ramp... in Jan. 8 hr job took 3 days. I still shiver when I think about it... ;)
Dahran Saudi Arabia in summer. We had a 120° thermometer hanging outside the line shack... was usually pegged by noon. A dozen jets running at a time didn't help. At night the breeze would blow in from the Gulf... sending humidity to 100%. I'll take the hot over the cold any day.
