What have you done to your XS today?

Well, I went back in and modded the baffles I put in my Peashooter mufflers. As I mentioned, with the full end cap they were just too quiet, plus they seemed to hamper performance in the higher RPMs. I knew getting the mufflers off might be quite the chore since they were so hard to get on, lol. So, I fabbed up a "special tool", nothing more than a length of angle iron I could bolt to the muffler mount then pry or pound against .....

This worked out very well and the mufflers came off without too much trouble. To make them easier to remove and install, I used a larger drill bit to countersink the rivet holes .....

Once installed, I took a ball peen hammer and peened the rivet heads down into the countersink even more. They came out practically flush to the touch and now the mufflers slide on and off pretty easily. I'm saving my "special tool" though, it's a big help.

For the baffles, I removed the solid end caps and installed 2 bolts in an "X" pattern. I double-nutted the ends and used blue Loctite. The inner nuts and washers also block a bit more flow which I thought might be good .....

So, the results are? I like it. Louder than before but quieter than no baffles, and the performance seems to have been fixed in the higher RPMs.

5t, how about making lollipops instead of two bolts. A washer attached to one of those bolts will allow you to adjust the opening, and exhaust flow and sound. Also performance. I have done this on similar setups successfully.

Last night I did a mad dash to get the 132.5 mains into the carbs. Did it in record time (for me anyway). Got up early again and tried them out. Running better but still not her best. Going to do a plug check later. Way less stumble and just behaving better. Had her out for 75 min. Took pics of the XC-99. I'll post them in the Airplane thread later. She's in sad shape. She still exists, barely.

Haven't been working that hard...some miner frame sanding (drip mark and more pimples). Painted primer/gloss on stand. So have those and motor mounts done. Put the stands on the brass wheel, knocked off rest of old paint and then dipped them and the motor mounts in that POR-15 metal-prep for 20 mins before priming....May have been overkill but..If i didn't give a rats ass about that original VIN tag...in the pic, I would have done less work, paid $200+ more and powder coated...

Nice pic. Did you use the Lomo-ish effect to get the blue tones on the chrome parts?

Thanks, the blue tones on the chrome are just reflections of the sky. That photo was ran through editing software on my Apple IPhone 6 ( which is what I had at the time ) , the color saturation, exposure , brilliance, sharpness and contrast have all been manipulated. The results are the color is more intense, chrome seems a little more brilliant, And the image is crisper looking. It’s amazing , that you can do all that on a device that you can carry in your pocket!

Been fighting a gronched out 6mm case hole for the sump plate. tentatively and gingerly fixed it with a Timesert after the dreaded PO ham fisted a helicoil.
Well, the timesert I put in pulled out too. Damn. Bigsert to the rescue. Hoping this works but cautiously confident. Threads cut perfectly and insert locked in as advertised. Letting the loktite setup overnight before putting torque on it. Hoping to never think about those bloody little holes again.
Dark and scary threadless hole:
