So since it appears that getting a good set of Advance springs is a issue now, does everyone recommend changing to an electronic system? from my understanding this replaces the Points and removes the springs? Just had my springs break and i bought new ones but the bike is not running correctly. Its backfiring and the RPMs are not correct so im thinking it has to do with the springs not properly tensioned. Springs were purchased from MikesXS

Which one would you recommend, im reading a lot of the posts and it appears Pamco is no longer available.

Mikes XS :

Is the Mikes XS one from the link above the correct products to get? do they work good?
If MikesXS is a good one do i need to replace/purchase anything else with the kit? im reading posts about PMA replacement but not familiar with how it all comes together, and if it even needs to be replaced with some kits.

Pamco: No longer available is my understanding

Hughs: seems to be selling a whole system with the stator? very expensive, would i even need this entire assembly?

Boyer: hard to figure out from their website where i can buy one since im in the US

Any other reputable brands out there?

I'd look into the Gonzo box conversion.

I`ve bought two Boyer kits from racingnorton also. Cheapest price on eBait and fast shipping too.

With the Boyer Kits: what is the difference between the Red and Blue box or model versions? how do I know which one i need. If i buy the Boyer Micro Power Ignition, this replaces the points and advance springs correct? do i need to swap out any other parts aside the ones included with the kit? Will a regular battery work or does any of that need to be replaced as well?
Thank you for all the suggestions. Just want to get all the info i can before i proceed.

Here is a link to Boyers website, you can read about the systems and find the unit right for you.

As I understand it, the micro digital are designed to work with your stock coils and the micro power include a high output coil ( which is the unit that is for sale in the classifieds, here on the forum that Machine referenced)
That’s the one I would go with, the one that includes the coil. And yes, both ignitions has electronic advance.

From what I have read the blue box is best. The Boyer with the blue box replaces the points, condenser, coil and advance. You will need to make a new coil mount. Regular battery is fine. Not hard to install. Read the installation sheet and take your time. You will need a timing light to get things right.
I've had no problems with mine.

Both blue box (Micro Power) and red box (Micro Digital) versions eliminate breaker points, condenser, and mechanical advance. The only difference is that the red box system requires a coil with 3.5 to 5 ohm resistance which the buyer must supply, and the blue box system requires a low resistance 0.6 ohm coil included in the Boyer kit. The same timing plate is used in both, and both advance the spark electronically in a continuous curve.

Is there anything you recommend for the coil mount? im seeing people use aluminum plates with threaded screws and nuts holding the Coils under the tank.
Also: does the coil need to somehow be grounded? im reading in some of the posts that yes it does but in others it does not. Thoughts? if so would i just run some sort of wire from the mounting screw to?

I made a mount out of key stock.

Did you ground the coil at all to the frame or anything? or is it enough that the unit itself is already attached to the metal components of the mount?
No need to ground the coil. Since it fires both plugs.
